We'd like to call out a few stories that got high marks from our curators this week.

Curator comment:
@gabmr writes a lively Science Fiction story. A young hybrid girl, half human and half code, envisions the possibility of freeing the population from the virtual prison exerted on her by a millionaire who tricks programmers to manage people in a virtual world. It is a complex story that needs more than the 1396 words used by the writer to be fully developed. However, the story thrills and we are able to see unimaginable scenes through the author's powerful narrative.

@treasuree delivers a well structured, imaginative fiction, that hits all the marks. The piece about friends who get stuck in a time loop and eventually figure out how to restart “time”, is gripping, interesting and intelligently plotted. Nice work that brightened my day.

Curator comment:
A well-developed story with a decent arc from @rare-gem. Peculiar is a young woman who lives with her abusive aunt. Her aunt, Bisi, took her in after Peculiar's parents died. We feel for Peculiar and root for her one day to be free of Bisi's abusive grasp. Yinka, as the caring and well-intentioned neighbour, provides a wonderful contrast and showers Peculiar with love and hope in a world where very little exists for her. Rare-gem's writing evokes strong feelings from the reader about her characters. We are invested in the outcome and will Yinka to succeed in her plan to free Peculiar from her life of misery. The author has put in a good effort here and I enjoyed this read!
Fiction Writing Prompt of the Week
This week's prompt is: "Am I a fool for dreaming?."
Dreaming is not just something we do at night in our sleep. Many of us have dreams of success, dreams of better things, and dreams of a better world.
We just have this one life, right? What we make of it, the attitude we bring to each day, and whether we allow our hopes and dreams to be dimmed by life's challenges, are all in our power. Maybe the daydreamers have always been the ones with true vision!
Let's see your fictional stories about daydreamers, about characters who believe that life can be good if we reach for the stars, and about characters seeking joy, rejuvenation, world peace and other big visions.
If all that fails to inspire you, perhaps this video will:
Good luck! Remember, as always, we are looking for the elements of story. These include:
- Great first lines
- Good settings
- Well-developed characters
- Integration of action, dialogue and narrative
- A conflict that intrigues the reader
- A "story arc" which results in the resolution of the conflict and brings the story to a satisfying conclusion
- And of course, we are looking for well-edited stories that are not littered with typos or grammatical errors
