A Farewell Hug?
It was a cold morning, like the surroundings of that house. Its walls and ceiling seemed lifeless, as did the window frames and glass. Everything was a sepulchral silence. A couple, seated on a table, without looking at each other's faces, were just there, consuming the food that had been served.
The gray color manipulated the whole place, there was no other color. The degraded tapestries, the dark furniture, the colorless carpet, everything had been transformed. It was no longer like years ago when the diverse colors vibrated with joy and love, now it was like a graveyard; cold and depressing.
Jessica found it hard to swallow her food, she was looking at a different spot in the kitchen, any spot, except Brandon's eyes. He for his part was doing the same, the two had argued loudly, another argument, what else is left, how can you fix a relationship where there is no respect?
Brandon quickly finished eating and stood up, the scrape of the chair made Jessica flinch. She closed her eyes and imagined Brandon was no longer there, she just wanted him to go to work right away.
She was a young and attractive girl, childless and with an excellent figure, she had a good job and chances for promotion, she didn't have to put up with this, a man who didn't even want her. Brandon, was much older than Jessica, he was also attractive and with a very good job. He thought that after paying all his debts, it would be easy to fix his relationship with his wife, but he was wrong.
The problem was bigger, it had grown quickly because it was not stopped at the root. They both began to fear that this was unstoppable, until finally their fears were fulfilled, now it seemed that there was no solution.
Jessica rose abruptly from her chair, she held her gaze firmly on Brandon, he was surprised by his wife's withering expression, he was petrified until he heard the loud news.
"I'm leaving tonight." Notified Jessica, that to Brandon was like a bucket of cold water.
"What, where to?" he replied.
"You don't need to know. Let's not kid ourselves anymore, Brandon, it's best to go our separate ways."
Brandon ducked his head, resigned to Jessica's assertion.
"True, I'd like to contradict him, but I can't." Brandon replied, rubbing his hand over the back of his neck.
"We've wanted to for a long time, but we're too cowardly for detachment. The fairest thing is for me to leave, you paid for this house." Jessica said in a sad tone.
"At least let me give you money to make you safer."
"No need, I earn very well, soon I will be promoted in my job. I'll live with my friend Martha for a while until I can rent something of my own, I just want you to know that."
There was a deep silence after that and a sense of discomfort began to rise in the air. Brandon was patting the counter next to the sink, while Jessica slid her fingers across the table. They tried to make eye contact again, but couldn't.
"Well, I guess this is goodbye." Brandon said with a shrug.
"I guess...we don't have to end badly, out of respect for our years of relationship together. We're adults and respectful." Jessica stated with a smile.
Brandon shook his head in approval and began to approach Jessica.
"A farewell hug?" Brandon asked with open arms. Jessica made an affirmative gesture.
They embraced warmly and, it was from there, that everything began to change. The ecstasy, the sighs, the caresses that slowly rose and fell, all of it thrilled them, along with lustful thoughts that invaded their minds.
They stared into each other's eyes, this time with passion, Jessica was embarrassed and tried to pull away, but Brandon stopped her and dropped a kiss on her lips. She did not resist, she was petrified, and quickly began to reciprocate such action.
They kissed more passionately, it was already practically irresistible. The colors came alive, on the walls, on the staircase, on the ceiling and on the floor. They went upstairs to the bedroom as they continued to awkwardly eat each other's kisses. They locked themselves in and spent hours together, completely forgetting that they had to go to work that day.
