The other day I shared in a publication a series of pictures of my cat, who was scared to have the company of another new cat member of the family.
Inspired by those pictures I sat down to draw to see if I could achieve something interesting and the truth is that it was a decent drawing, considering that I'm not an expert in digital drawing. I will leave you the step by step in the publication and some comments of the creative process. I hope you like my drawing.
As I told you, I was inspired by my cat for this drawing, it was a great moment to be able to take a few pictures of her when she was finally still, something she normally doesn't do because she is very hyperactive.
But I didn't just stick with the idea of making a cat, I wanted to do something more. I thought about giving meaning to my drawing and then I started thinking about all those animals that, just like plants, are sometimes neglected by their owners, so I not only made a drawing of a cat but also of a bonsai.

For the bonsai I tried to make enough lines to create a wood-like texture. I think I succeeded, or at least to me it looks like a wooden tree and not such a flat drawing.

Once I made the base lines of the drawing, I started coloring. Try to use varied colors to create contrast, without any object appearing to be out of the composition. I chose a palette of brown and red for the bonsai pot.

After painting the tiny tree, I started drawing the cat. I did it with enough lines to also create a fur-like effect, trying to create shadows and depth in the drawing so that it didn't look like a flat drawing either. I don't like to make drawings like that, I prefer them to look with depth.

If you have seen a Bonsai, you probably remember it as a little tree with many leaves, and it certainly is. A Bonsai is a small tree but with a lot of green in its branches; however, like all living things, if it is not taken care of, it can die.
This is what I try to capture in my drawing. We ask to see the cat looking out of the window, as if it were waiting for its owner to come and finally give it something to eat.
The Bonsai, on the other hand, is a tree that cannot meow or remind its owner that it also needs to be watered and that if it is in the sun all day, it will simply die. This is what is happening with this Bonsai, which is already losing the few leaves it has left.
I made them with two shades of green, a lighter one as a base and a darker one to create shadows.

I also tried to add shadows in other parts of the drawing, such as the window frames, adding a darker brown color, and in the bonsai pot, where I applied a crimson tone for the reddish tone with which I painted it.
As you can see, the drawing looks better with shadows than without:
Likewise, since it is next to a window, I decided to give lighting to some areas of the cat and the bonsai to give it a certain touch of realism, since it looks like it is a sunny day through the window.
This is how this drawing was finished, of a cat waiting for its owner to feed it and a Bonsai that little by little is dying due to lack of care.

El otro día comparti en una publicación una serie de fotografías de mi gata, que estaba asustada por tener la compañía de otro nuevo gato miembro de la familia.
Inspirado en esas fotos me senté a dibujar a ver si lograba algo interesante y la verdad es que quedó un dibujo decente, considerando que no soy un experto en el dibujo digital. Les dejaré el paso a paso en la publicación y unos comentarios del proceso creativo. Espero les guste mi dibujo.
Como les dije, me inspiré en mi gata para este dibujo, fue un momento genial el hecho de poder tomarle unas cuantas fotografías cuando finalmente estuvo quieta, algo que normalmente no hace porque es muy hiperactiva.
Pero no solo me quedé con la idea de hacer un gato, sino que quise hacer algo más. Pensé en darle significado a mi dibujo y entonces me puse a pensar en todos esos animales que, al igual que las plantas, a veces son descuidados por sus dueños, así que no solo hice el dibujo de un gato sino también el de un bonsai.

Para el bonsai traté de hacer la suficiente cantidad de líneas para crear una textura semejante a la de la madera. Creo que lo logré, o al menos a mi me parece un arbol de madera y no un dibujo tan plano.

Una vez que hice las líneas base del dibujo, comencé a colorear. Trate de usar colores variados para crear contraste, sin que ningún objeto parezca estar fuera de la composión. Elejí una paleta de colores marrón y rojo para la maceta del bonsai.

Después de pintar el diminuto árbol, comencé a dibujar el gato. Lo hice con suficientes líneas para también crear un efecto similar al pelaje, tratando de crear sombras y profundidad en el dibujo para que tampoco se viera como un dibujo plano. No me gusta hacer dibujos así, prefiero que se vean con profundidad.

Si han visto un Bonsai, seguramente lo recuerdan como un arbolito con muchas hojas, y ciertamente es así. Un Bonsai es un árbol pequeño pero con gran cantidad de verde en sus ramas; sin embargo, al igual que todo ser vivo, si no se cuida, puede morir.
Esto es lo que trato de plasmar en mi dibujo. Pedemos ver al gato mirando por la ventana, como si estuviese aguardando a que su dueño llegue para que porfin le de algo de comer.
El Bonsai, por otra parte, es un árbol que no puede maullar o recordarle a su dueño que también necesita que lo riegen y que si está todo el día bajo el sol, simplemente morirá. Esto es lo que está pasando con ese Bonsai, que ya está terminando de perder las pocas hojas que le quedan.
Las hice con dos tonos de verde, uno más claro como base y uno más oscuro para crear sombras.

También traté de agregar sombras en otras partes del dibujo, como los marcos de la ventana, agregando un color marrón más oscuro, y en la maceta del bonsai, donde apliqué una tonalidad carmesí para el tono rojizo con el que la pinté.
Como pueden ver, se ve mejor el dibujo con sombras que sin estas:
De igual manera, como está junto a una ventana, decidí darle iluminación a algunas áreas del gato y del bonsai para darle cierto toque de realismo, pues se ve que a través de la ventana hay un día soleado.
De esta manera quedó terminado este dibujo, de un gato esperando a su dueño para que lo alimente y un Bonsai que poco a poco va muriendo por la falta de cuidado.
