Greetings friends of Hive and the Architecture+Design Community, I come to continue showing and telling you about the remodeling work of La Floresta Park here in Medellin, Colombia, after being closed for almost a year and as I said in the previous post it was worth the wait. Although it is a work not completely finished because there are many details that are being attended to, the good thing is that the work continues and the work is not abandoned and the city can have the park open while the maintenance it receives is seen.
On this occasion I will show you other important details for the modernization of the park and even some that have to do with the traditions here in Antioquia.
Saludos amigos de Hive y de la Comunidad de Arquitectura+Diseño, vengo para seguir mostrándoles y hablandoles sobre los trabajo de remodelación del Parque La Floresta aquí en Medellín, Colombia, luego de estar casi un año cerrado y como dije en la publicación anterior valió la pena la espera. Aunque es una obra no terminada completamente porque son muchos los detalles que se están atendiendo lo bueno es que los trabajos continúan y la obra no queda en el abandono y la ciudad puede tener el parque abierto mientras se ve el mantenimiento que recibe.
En esta ocasión les mostraré otros detalles importantes para la modernización del parque e incluso unos que tienen que ver con las tradiciones aquí en Antioquia.
Renovated walkways
Among so many renovations, of course the walkways were also remodeled, they changed the tiles and made a new design to the route. It is amazing the change that can give a proper tiles, these before were dark as well as black or gray, they were more opaque, but now they are beige.
Caminerías renovadas
Entre tantos renovaciones, por supuesto también las caminerías las remodelaron, les cambiaron las baldosas y le hicieron un diseño nuevo al recorrido. Es asombroso el cambio que puede dar unas baldosas apropiadas, éstas antes eran oscuras así como negra o gris, eran más opacas, pero ahora son beige.
The wide space in the middle, I think there was something like that before, but now it is nicer and they changed the tile to beige like in all the walkways, so it looks brighter, lighter.
El espacio amplio que está en el medio, yo creo que ya antes había algo así como eso, pero ahora está más bonito y le cambiaron la baldosa que es de color beige como en todas las caminerías, así que se ve más iluminado, más claro.
The walkways on the outside of the park have been made wider, I am referring to the sidewalk that surrounds the park, and they are now much wider and more comfortable.
Las caminerías que están en la parte externa del parque las pusieron más amplia, me refiero a la acera que rodea el parque, ahora son mucho más anchas y cómodas.
Bicycle parking
Another novelty is that they put some silver (chrome) tubes for bicycle parking. This was not available in the park before and they are located in several places.
Parqueaderos para bicicletas
Otra novedad es que pusieron unos tubos plateados (cromados) para parqueadero de bicicletas. Esto tampoco lo tenía antes el parque y están ubicados en varios sitios.
Orange points of the Medellín City Hall
They put containers for recycling. But these containers are different from the colored ones, which are the most well known. These are orange with a metal door and they say RECYCLABLES. After some research I found out that they were the so-called orange bins of the Mayor's Office of Medellín.

Pusieron contenedores para reciclaje. Pero estos recipientes son diferentes a los que hay por colores, que son los más conocidos. Estos son se color anaranjado con la compuerta de metal y dicen RECICLABLES. Luego de indagar supe que eran los llamados puntos naranjas de la Alcaldía de Medellín.
However, there are other metal containers, all chrome-plated and in the traditional style for placing garbage, the kind that are usually placed in squares.
Sin embargo, hay otros recipientes de metal, todos cromados y en el estilo tradicional para colocar basura, de esos que ponen normalmente en las plazas.
But the orange dots are purely to promote recycling awareness.
Pero los puntos naranjas son netamente para promover la conciencia del reciclaje.
Removing and leaving details
Just as they added new elements to the park, they also removed others that should have expired, such as some fountains that were there before but didn't even work and were removed. On the other hand, what remains is the presence of many pigeons and that is why there are wooden birdhouses, which are always full of pigeons.
Quitando y dejando detalles
Así como le agregaron elementos novedosos al parque, también le quitaron otros que ya debían caducar, como unas fuentes que habían antes pero que ni siquiera funcionaban y las quitaron. En cambio lo que si permanece es la presencia de muchas palomas y por eso hay casitas de madera para las aves, que siempre están llenas de palomas.
It is very nice that detail of the dovecote.
Es muy lindo ese detalle del palomar.
El Silleterito
The park has a monument called the Silleterito, this has to do with a very nice tradition in Antioquia that is done at the time of the Flower Fair where children dress up and parade as the traditional Silleteros, who for years have come down from the mountains with their wooden silletas covered with flowers to sell in Medellin.

El parque tiene un monumento llamado el Silleterito, este tiene que ver con una tradición muy bonita en Antioquia que se hace en época de la Feria de las Flores donde niños se disfrazan y desfilan como los tradicionales Silleteros, que por años han bajado de las montañas con sus silletas de madera cubiertas con las flores que venderán en Medellín.
Road works
Another thing that stands out quite a bit are the stretches of street that look like beige bricks which gives it a stone road look. That part of the street with bricks used to be normal black asphalt but now the street looks very nice, that is to say that it is part of the ornament but it also indicates to drivers that they should slow down because the street is part of the park and suggests that there are pedestrians passing by.
Trabajos en la vialidad
Otra cosa que destaca bastante son los tramos de calle que se ven como de ladrillos beige que le da un aspecto de camino de piedra. Esa parte de la calle con ladrillos antes era de asfalto negro normal pero ahora se ve la calle muy bonita, es decir que es parte del ornato pero también indica a los conductores que deben bajar la velocidad porque la calle es parte del parque y sugiere que hay peatones transitando.
The new road around the park is really very decorative and useful.
Realmente es muy decorativa y útil la nueva vialidad alrededor del parque.
You can also see all the striping and signage work on the pavement road.
También se pueden ver todos los trabajos de rayado y señalización sobre la calle de pavimento.
The mayor's office crews are seen to be distributed along the street bordering the park repainting and renewing all the signs on the pavement.
Las cuadrillas de la alcaldía se ven que están distribuidas por la calle que bordea el parque repintando y renovando todas las señalizaciones sobre el pavimento.
It is very good to see how this work of recovery of a natural park is being carried out. I am not Colombian but I am a person who appreciates the good things that I get in this country and in any other country. Since I arrived in Colombia I saw that green environments are important, although there are failures to overcome but there is concern in the population for the care of natural spaces. There is ecological awareness and that is important and promising.
La Floresta Park is a very nice place for recreation for the people who live in the area and it is also a symbol of a part of Colombian culture, besides being a natural symbol where urban design respects the environment.
Es muy bueno ver como se lleva a cabo esta obra de recuperación de un parque natural. Yo me siento emocionado con esto y no soy colombiano pero soy una persona que aprecia lo bueno que me se consigue en este país y en cualquier otro. Desde que llegué a Colombia vi que los ambientes verdes son importantes, aunque hay fallas que superar pero hay preocupación en la población por el cuidado de los espacios naturales. Hay conciencia ecológica y eso es importante y prometedor.
El Parque La Floresta es un lugar muy bonito para la recreación de la gente que vive en la zona y también es símbolo de una parte de la cultura colombiana, además de ser un símbolo natural donde el diseño urbano respeta el medio ambiente.
