Wishing a very good day to all my dear friends!
The jackfruit, known locally as Kos, holds a special place in the traditional Sri Lankan kitchen—not only for its versatility but also for the deep cultural heritage it represents. Among the many ways to prepare jackfruit, one of the most wholesome and heartwarming options is mallum—a lightly sautéed dish made with finely shredded jackfruit, combined with coconut and a blend of spices. When made with tender young jackfruit, this mallum becomes a healthy and satisfying accompaniment to rice. Rich in fiber and plant-based nutrients, it is both nourishing and flavorful, making it a beloved choice for anyone who appreciates a home-cooked Sri Lankan meal.
So, let’s take a look at how to prepare this delightful dish step by step.

Some water.

The cooking process as follows.
First, let’s wash, clean, and cut the jackfruit and its seeds as shown below.
Next, take a cooking pot, add the chopped jackfruit pieces along with salt and water, and boil it well.
Next, take a grinding stone and add some mustard seeds, garlic, shallots, turmeric powder, and pepper powder. Grind them well into a paste and set it aside.
Now place a pan on the stove and add about two tablespoons of coconut oil. Once the oil is heated, add the remaining mustard seeds, garlic, shallots, curry leaves, and pieces of dried red chili. Sauté until golden brown.
Finally, add the coconut mixture and the boiled jackfruit pieces, and mix well. Cook for about 4 minutes and then remove from the stove.
