Wishing all my dear friends a very good day!
Lentils—also known locally as parippu—hold a special place in many kitchens, especially in Sri Lankan cuisine, thanks to their versatility, simplicity, and rich nutritional value. We often enjoy it as a warm curry with rice, but today, we’re giving it an exciting twist by transforming it into a vibrant and healthy lentil salad. Light yet satisfying, this salad is a wonderful way to enjoy lentils in a new form—whether as a light lunch, a side dish, or a part of a nutritious meal. It’s also perfect for those looking for a plant-based option without compromising on flavor.
So let’s take a look at how to prepare this delicious dish, step by step!
Materials Used.
Dhal 100g.
1 tomato, cut into long pieces.
A finely chopped onion.
3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped.
2 finely chopped green chilies.
Curry leaves.
1 Teaspoon of sugar.
2 Teaspoon of crushed chili powder.
2 Teaspoon of Lime juice.
Salt to taste.
Coconut oil for frying
The cooking process as follows.
Now, let’s wash the lentils thoroughly and place them in a pan on the stove. Add a little coconut oil to the pan, and once it heats up, add the lentils. Sauté them gently over low heat for about 5 minutes.
Now, remove the excess oil from the pan and add about a tablespoon of fresh coconut oil. Once the oil is heated, add chopped garlic, curry leaves, onions, and green chilies. Sauté them well until fragrant and lightly golden.
Now, add sugar, chili powder, and salt to taste, and mix everything well together.
Now, using a wooden mortar and pestle, gently pound the cooked lentils until they break into small pieces.
Finally, combine everything well, add lime juice and chopped tomatoes, and toss the mixture to prepare a fresh and flavorful lentil salad.
This lentil salad becomes a beautiful blend of texture and flavor – combining earthy lentils, crisp vegetables, and a spiced dressing in perfect harmony. It’s not only a creative twist for a beloved staple but also a vibrant dish that adds variety to your meal. Try it once, and you may find yourself preparing lentils this way more often! That’s all from me for today. Wishing you a wonderful day!
