Wishing all my dear friends a wonderful day!
Known as Kadala in Sinhala, chickpeas are not only rich in protein and fiber but also incredibly versatile in Sri Lankan cuisine. When simmered with creamy coconut milk, fragrant spices, and a touch of love, they transform into a wholesome and heartwarming dish—perfect alongside rice, roti, or idiyappam.
Today, let’s explore how to bring this nutritious golden legume to life in a way that satisfies both taste and nourishment.
Materials Used.
100g chickpeas, soaked in water for about 6 hours.
Some water.
1/2 Teaspoon of turmeric powder.
1 Teaspoon of curry powder.
1 Teaspoon of chili powder.
A finely chopped onion.
3 green chilies, chopped
Curry leaves.
1 tomato, chopped into small pieces
2 Tablespoon of coconut oil.
1 Cup of coconut milk.
4/1 teaspoon of Cumin.
Salt as needed.
3 cloves of crushed garlic.
The cooking process as follows.
First, take the pre-soaked chickpeas and place them in a pan. Add enough water, 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, and a pinch of salt.
Next, place it on the stove and cook well until the chickpeas are tender.
Now take the turmeric powder and chili powder into a small bowl, add a little water, mix well, and set aside.
Next, take a pan and place it on the stove. Add about one tablespoon of coconut oil. Once the oil is hot, add cumin seeds. Then add the chopped onions and crushed garlic, and mix well. Sauté for a while.
Then add the prepared chili powder and curry powder mixture to it, along with the chopped tomatoes. Mix everything well and cook for a few minutes.
Finally, add the boiled chickpeas, coconut milk, green chilies, and curry leaves. Cook for 3–4 minutes and then remove from the heat.
And there you have it – a warm, fragrant bowl of chickpea curry that brings both comfort and nutrition to every meal. Whether it becomes a part of your everyday lunch or a special weekend feast, this simple dish proves how humble ingredients can create the most flavorful moments at the table. Don’t forget to share it with your loved ones and enjoy it while it's warm. That’s all for today. Wishing you a wonderful day!
