Growing up, I used to believe in magic. You know, witches, broomsticks, potions, wizards, unicorns, fairies, and the like. I was the weird kid, the one who was obsessed with ghosts, speaking with the deceased and casting spells, and in a time pre Harry Potter, that was considered strange.
It's safe to say I have moved on from the childlike fantasies of what magic is but that doesn't mean that in some ways, those things haven't stayed with me.

How Do I See Magic?
Magic is the wonder, the unexplained, and the positively fantastic. Moments that bring us joy or happiness. Things that intrigue us and keep us guessing, leading us into deep thought. Taking us on a journey into the unknown and leaving us with a yearning to understand them further.
Magic is the life on this planet and feeling connected to nature is pure magic. The little seed that sparks with DMT to grow and thrive. The little flower, the animal life, the sea lapping at the shore, and the way the moon works in conjunction with us as we keep her in our gravitational orbit.

The music, the arts, the way things flow in synchronicity. Our interactions and communication from body language to how we treat people can be magical experiences. I love the idea that we are all part of this grand design, each a little piece that makes up this whole universe.
Interaction As A Magical Experience
I perceive our ability to communicate as a gift. We are blessed with the ability to speak, write, draw and make music that resonates with our energy fields. Sadly, misunderstanding can lead to negative experiences and feelings which is why I like to approach everything I do with an open heart and kindness. To understand and help foster positive energy.
I was having a conversation with my 8-year-old son this morning. We were talking about the way we talk to people. He is quite wise for his age and explained to me that the words we chose to use can have a significant impact on others. He is an empathic soul and has a kind heart, but like many kids is struggling with the negativity from outside sources. I love that he can verbalize his feelings and understands them and that to me is a magical thing.
What is intriguing to me is how we communicate and how it can have such diverse effects on our emotional wellbeing. Thinking, feeling, and behaving from a place of kindness is a magical thing. This is why I admire those that consistently do this and the very reason behind my philosophy to life.
BE KIND, ALWAYS
Our energy is a powerful tool. I like to think that I can pick up on people's energy and have certainly felt the strain from what we call energy vampires. I am slowly learning how to navigate my intuition and trust what it is telling me. This in itself is a magical thing.

The words we use are tools for creating magic. It reminds me of this saying above. It is so important to choose how we speak to each other and ourselves. If we constantly speak or write negative things then negativity will manifest. By actively finding positive ways and peaceful ways to address even difficult situations can restore more positive energy. Now I am not talking about being so positive to the point where our positivity becomes toxic. Of course, there are going to be strained situations where kindness is not appropriate, but I am talking about it in everyday musings. This ability to cast spells with language is certainly magic.

Nature and Magic
After spending a considerable amount of time in nature in various parts of the world I have observed many amazing things. I see how authors find their inspiration for stories about all things magical. From ancient temperate rainforests in the UK to the vast mountain ranges, these are the places where the fairies dwell, the giants sleep and the energy forces silently go about their business.
One particular year when my girls were small we were camping in The Forest Of Dean. It was late summer and as the nights drew in, little gnats started surrounding the lower branches of trees, dancing in the last drops of sunlight. My youngest daughter who was obsessed with faeries asked me if they were real or not. Naturally, I pointed to the gnats and said...
"look there they are, doing their sunset dance. This is one of the only times you will see them."
It was a magical moment and when I think about it, I guess in their own way these little insects are faeries. Nature is so beautiful and naturally full of many magical things. It has the ability to calm us, release stress and anxiety as well as provide homes for all life forms in various ways.

So How Does This All Tie In With Childhood Experiences?
I think ultimately magic is energy. From a very young age we are made aware of this energy of the world through tales of magic, hearsay, stories passed down from generations, perhaps this is our way of understanding the world around us. I know for me, it certainly helps to see the world differently and continue to learn and grow.
