Welcome back again to the ongoing story of my advent which involves 24 cans of Australian craft beer from a retailer called Carwyn Cellars in Melbourne and the building of Kevin McCallister's house from Home Alone, also in advent (24 steps forms)
The previous posts can be found here:
Part 1 days 1-3
Part 2 day 4-7
So we are up to Day 8
**Day 8 **
King River Brewery - I imagine is in the King Valley which is about 2.5 hours north of Melbourne. They have gone for a very tradtional European style with so Kiwi hops added. It's called Pilsener Aurora Europa which seems apt. And it's a pretty good euro style pilsener, I don't drink a lot of pilseners, but when I find one I like I appreciate it - this is very sophisticated good drinking 3.75/5
As you can see today's building (or rather yesterday's as the Lego is a day behind) added a very nice looking front door complete with Christmas wreathes and columns and and entrance hall
Day 9
Hop Nation are a brewery from just up the road from here in Footscray in the West of Melbourne. The beer is called 'Never odd or even" and claims to be a Mulberry and Key Lime sour and it is just outstanding - it like a key lime cheesecake with a big thick lactose body 4.25/5
And back to the house - as you can see we now have a dining room, couple with four very unusual chairs - for you Lego folk the legs are fangs we are have a moving turntable with the wigged head which is for the party scene - very cool.
Day 10
Co-Conspirators are yet another Melbourne brewery so we are keeping this local. The beer is a very appropriately named The Scrooge (all their beer names are characters - the Matriarch, the Butcher, the Editor etc) and this is a Double IPA
It pretty good, refreshing fresh, but not quite as big either in Hops or malt as I would expect from a what I’d expect from a DIPA 4.0/5
And we have the first of the front walls of the house - the build is a lot of brown tiles, the only interesting part are that it is all hinged so that you can open it up and look inside (like a dolls house) it even half locks into a couch which is impressive. The shutters are kinda cool and there are some Christmas decorations on the inside that you can really see in the photo.
So 10 days in and we have most of downstairs of the house and we have had some very very good beers, some good beers and thankfully no beers that I would consider a failure (although there are few beers that I do consider failure, they are still beers afterall.
