Revisiting my vinyl collection, one letter at a time...
I've been collecting records for as long as I can remember, and sometimes it's easy to skip over things, and forget what you've got. I'm going to start listening to things in alphabetical order, it give me a chance to look through my collection again, and give me an opportunity to share things with other music lovers, and vinyl collectors.
The rules are simple, I will start at A, and choose an artist from my collection beginning with that letter, next day I move on to B, then C, etc.
The story so far...
A is for... Adam and the Ants - Kings of the Wild Frontier
B is for... The Beatles - Abbey Road
C is for...
The Chemical Brothers - Exit Planet Dust
This one takes me right back to my hazy student days in London in the mid 90's. The Chemical Brothers were to be found remixing everyone, and were a big part of shaping dance music in the 90's, and largely responsible for creating big beat electronica. Their sometimes psychedelic sound also enabled them to be appreciated away from the dancefloor as well.
I'm probably a bigger fan of their second album, Dig Your Own Hole, but for me this is where it all started, with classics like Leave Home, Chemical Beats, and Life is Sweet. They were great at collaborating with other musicians, such as Tim Burgess from The Charlatans, Beth Orton, and later Noel Gallagher from Oasis.
The 90's was also the era of CD's, vinyl was suffering a downturn, apart from 12" single releases. I'm afraid in my student days I was mostly buying CD's (they were cheaper!). I have since learnt the error of ways and now have a copy of this on vinyl!
Here's a couple of tracks to get you up and moving...
