Thanks everyone for the likes on yesterday’s post! I didn’t expect that kind of response. I hope it’s okay to post (almost) daily here — if not, I’ll switch to a different community or reduce my frequency.
Yesterday, I discussed my photography with deepseek. It’s hard to articulate the meaning behind my photos, but this one isn’t just a billboard with broken lamps. For me, it’s poetic. Every element here is intentional: I spent 15 minutes taking dozens of subtly different shots. I love the red light on the left pole and the precise spacing between the poles and the billboard.
So, deepseek suggested I revisit photographers I already know and admire — Saul Leiter, William Eggleston, and Daido Moriyama. Like them, I aim to infuse ordinary scenes with poetic meaning. While I emphasized intentionality in my shot, I also value spontaneity. Deepseek also introduced me to Rinko Kawauchi, a wonderful discovery! The conversation made me realize that text could guide viewers toward the poetic subtext. So, I wrote these lines, not directly about the photo, but as a hint for how to see it:
a crack in the pavement holds yesterday's rain
My social media experiment (same photo posted across platforms) has already taken an unexpected turn. Rodeo is dead quiet (even though you pay to post there). X is a ghost town, as expected. Hive and Bluesky are performing best after day one. Though it’s too early to draw conclusions before the 10-day mark.
