First of all, let me introduce you to the five Xtreme Bike instructors, who were in charge of leading a group of 90 people. Now I'm going to talk to you about specific things in these photos.
In a previous post I wrote about the photos in motion and in that specific case I was talking about a discipline known here in Venezuela as Bailoterapia. I also mentioned that my presence in that activity obeyed, in the first instance, to take photos and videos of a spinning modality called Xtreme Bike, so this post is directed to bike lovers.
It must be said that each type of photo has its “magic”. I pointed out in that post that finding the harmony between pose and facial expression in an intense dancing photo can be complex. However, stationary photos have their secret just the same.
For me, a big part of that trick is leg placement and angle, but mainly that the rider's legs form a letter “P” and that, preferably, the leg that's up should be the one that's furthest back in the photographer's view.
That visual recommendation is just that; data that, by the way, is used in modeling and that has to do with the sensuality of the bodies, a theory that does not lose rigor in this sport modality.
It does not mean that if you do not meet this “requirement” you will not get a good image. Like any “rule”, this recommendation is something that you should try, master and then understand what happens when you follow this advice, and then you can and should let your imagination fly with the shots you want to take.
Going back to the previous explanation about the location of the legs, it's time to focus on the facial expression. Here several scenarios can occur. The first is that the person smiles naturally on their own. Likewise, you can have a concentrated face, or giving an indication and that photo will look good.
There are photographers who call the subject's attention and say “photo, photo”, motioning for them to pose for the camera, either smiling, or correcting those postures they may be doing poorly due to tiredness, distraction, or whatever the reason may be.
I always make that call to remind them that I am taking a picture at weddings. Not in the case of sports disciplines. I know from my own experience that, despite the invasion of cell phones present in gyms by those who want to record or take a picture of the activity, the teachers are there focused on their minds, their bodies and their intensity to devote that energy to the public and not to the photographer.
In fact, I have witnessed scenes where a student, wanting to take a photo or video at a certain moment of the activity, is scolded by the instructor on duty. In fact, I am sure that since they were paying for my services, they did not mind my presence there, scrutinizing everywhere to get good pictures and videos.
The reason I clarify this is because, just like in the theater, once the “show” starts, the teachers hate it when someone comes to the front of the stage, either because they were late for class, or because they want to take a picture or clip.
These aspects that I mention should be discussed with the instructors and they should serve as spokespersons for the students, so that they understand why you are there, interrupting the class. It is up to you to be prompt and precise, to interrupt your work as little as possible.
In the previous post I told you that not because of that anticipation, you will always be greeted with good faces or attitudes. So one must be more precise with the capture of the resources you are getting.
In particular, having been working with a hot shoe flash, even though it was daytime, both the flash and the way I was moving post by post, predicted that I was taking pictures, so it was up to them to choose whether to pose, smile, or just go on with their routine.
These “codes” I'm talking about are not universal or fixed rules, but I do recommend that you keep them in mind to avoid any inconvenience with your work. I have also noticed that, if you discuss them beforehand with the people in charge, it gives you a certain level of experience and endorsement that you have professionally handled similar situations.

That is not to say that by fully complying with this knowledge you can save yourself from any scolding, insult or bad look. I usually get them all the time, because in this world, no matter how benevolent your free will is, there are people who don't see it the same way and you can get in the “good graces of God” with people who prefer anonymity, who don't like pictures and who went just to drain their intensities in class, and that's super respectable.
The majority of those who read my “tutorials” are not into photography, I know, but at least I leave in evidence the criteria of those of us who are behind the lenses, looking for an unforgettable memory.

En primer lugar, déjenme presentarles a los cinco instructores de Xtreme Bike, quienes fueron los encargados de dirigir a un grupo de 90 personas. Ahora voy a hablarles sobre cosas puntuales en estas fotos.
En un post anterior escribía sobre las fotos en movimiento y en ese caso puntual hablaba de una disciplina conocida acá en Venezuela como Bailoterapia. También les mencionaba que mi presencia en aquella actividad obedecía, en primera instancia, a tomar fotos y videos de una modalidad de spinning llamada Xtreme Bike, así que este post está dirigido a los amantes de las bicicletas.
Hay que decir que cada tipo de foto tiene su "magia". Precisaba en esa publicación en que hallar la armonía entre la pose y la expresión facial en un foto de bailes intensos puede ser algo complejo. Sin embargo, las fotos estacionarias tienen su secreto igualmente.
Para mí, gran parte de ese truco consiste en la ubicación de las piernas y en el ángulo, pero principalmente en que las piernas del ciclista forme una letra "P" y que, preferiblemente, la pierna que esté arriba sea la que esté más atrás a la visión del fotógrafo.
Esa recomendación visual sólo es eso; dato que, por cierto, es usado en modelaje y que tiene que ver con la sensualidad de los cuerpos, teoría que no pierde rigor en esta modalidad deportiva.
No quiere decir que si no cumple con este "requisito" no vayas a obtener una buena imagen. Como toda "regla", dicha recomendación es algo que debes intentar, dominar y luego al comprender lo que sucede cuando sigues ese consejo, ya luego puedes y debes hacer volar tu imaginación con las tomas que quieras realizar.
Volviendo a la explicación anterior sobre la ubicación de las piernas, nos toca, entonces, concentrarnos en la expresión facial. Acá pueden ocurrir varios escenarios. El primero es que la persona sonría naturalmente por si sola. Asimismo, puede tener un rostro concentrado, o dando una indicación y esa foto quedará bien.
Explico ello porque hay fotógrafos que llaman la atención del protagonista y le dicen "foto, foto", haciendo ademán de que posen para la cámara, bien sea sonriendo, o corrigiendo aquellas posturas que pueden estar haciendo con deficiencia debido al cansancio, distracción, o cualquiera que sea el motivo.
Ese llamado de recordarles que estoy tomando foto lo hago siempre en las bodas. En el caso de las disciplinas deportivas no. Sé por experiencia propia que, a pesar de la invasión de celulares presentes en los gimnasios de parte de quien quiere grabar o tomar una foto de la actividad, el profesorado está allí concentrado en su mente, en su cuerpo y en su intensidad para dedicarle esa energía al público y no al fotógrafo.
He presenciado escenas donde algún alumno, queriendo tomar una foto o un video en un momento determinado de la actividad, es regañado por el instructor de turno. De hecho, estoy seguro que como ellos estaban pagando mis servicios, no les molestaba mi presencia allí, escudriñando por doquier para lograr buenas imágenes y videos.
Lo aclaro porque, al igual que en el teatro, una vez que comienza la "función", los profesores odian que alguien se ponga al frente del escenario, bien sea porque haya llegado tarde a la clase, o porque quiera hacer una foto o clip.
Estos aspectos que te menciono debes hablarlo con los instructores y que ellos sirvan de voceros para los alumnos, de forma tal que entiendan a qué se debe el que tú estés allí, interrumpiendo la clase. A uno le toca ser expedito y preciso, para irrumpir lo menos posible con tu trabajo.
En el post anterior te decía que no por esa anticipación, siempre te vayan a recibir con buenas caras o actitudes. Así que uno debe ser más preciso con la captura de los recursos que estás obteniendo.
En lo particular, el haber estado trabajando con un flash de zapata, pese a estar de día, tanto el destello como la forma cómo me iba moviendo puesto por puesto, hacían predecir que estaba tomando fotos, así que quedaba de ellos elegir si posar, si sonreír, o si sólo seguir adelante con su rutina.
Estos "códigos" de los que te hablo no son reglas universales o fijas, pero sí te recomiendo que las tengas en cuenta para evitar algún inconveniente con tu trabajo. He notado también que, si las conversas previamente con los encargados, te da cierto nivel de experiencia y respaldo de que has manejado profesionalmente situaciones similares.

No quiere decir que cumpliendo cabalmente estos saberes te puedas salvar de algún regaño, insulto o mala mirada. Yo suelo recibirlas siempre, porque en este mundo por muy benevolente que sea tu libre albedrío, hay personas que no lo ven de la misma forma y puedes quedar a las "buenas de Dios" con las personas que prefieren el anonimato, que no les gustan las fotos y que fueron sólo a drenar sus intensidades en la clase, y eso es super respetable.
Sé que la mayoría de los que leen mis "tutoriales" no se dedican a la fotografía, pero al menos dejo en evidencia los criterios de quienes estamos detrás de los lentes, buscando un recuerdo inolvidable.
