Hello and welcome back, here on Hive. Today I want to show you a few pictures that were taken during various periods of bad weather. Lightpainter inclement weather was always very frustrating for me years ago, especially when you don't have a location at hand that offers you some shelter from the storm and rain. However, I've never been the type to sit on the couch and do nothing. I've rearranged my flat a bit to create a space where I can do light painting even in inclement weather. A small studio like this not only has the advantage of sitting in a warm and dry place, so as not to bore the people around me at the location unnecessarily, I also like to test "new" effects and other things in my small studio at home that I would like to use outside later.
Hallo und willkommen zurück, hier auf Hive. Heute will ich euch ein paar Bilder zeigen, die während diverser Schlechtwetter-Perioden entstanden sind. Lightpainter unfreundliches Wetter war vor Jahren immer sehr frustrierend für mich, besonders wenn man dann keine Location zur Hand hat, die einem etwas Schutz bietet vor Sturm und Regen. Allerdings war ich noch nie ein Typ, der dann auf der Couch sitzt und nichts tut. Ich habe meine Wohnung etwas umgeräumt, um mir einen Raum zu schaffen, in dem ich auch bei ungünstiger Wettersituation Lightpaintings umsetzen kann. So ein kleines Studio hat nicht nur den Vorteil, dass man im Warmen und Trockenen sitzt, um meine Mitmenschen an der Location nicht unnötig zu langweilen, teste ich in meinem kleinen Studio zuhause auch gerne "neue" Effekte und andere Dinge, die ich dann später auch draußen anwenden möchte.

The pictures I show you today were all taken with the camera rotation technique in combination with other techniques. By "other" techniques I mean moving / static light, lens and tripod swaps, templates and whatever other crazy stuff there is.
Die Bilder, die ich euch heute zeige, sind alle mit Camera Rotations Technik in Kombination mit anderen Technik entstanden. Mit "anderen" Techniken meine ich bewegtes / statisches Licht, Objektiv- und Stativwechsel, Schablonen und was es sonst noch so für verrücktes Zeugs gibt.

For the cover picture, for example, I used this "glitter paper" and illuminated and rotated it accordingly with a Convoy S2 torch. In the second picture, a wine glass was used. In combination with glasses, I find the refraction of light through the glass very interesting. With a macro lens, funny effects are created. In the middle I added a 3x120° rotation. Here the light and the camera were moved.
Für das Titelbild habe ich beispielsweise dieses "Glitzerpapier" genutzt und mit einer Convoy S2 Taschenlampe entsprechend beleuchtet und rotiert. Im zweiten Bild kam ein Weinglas zum Einsatz. Sehr interessant finde ich im Zusammenhang mit Gläsern, die Lichtbrechung die durch das Glas entsteht. Mit einem Makroobjektiv entstehen da lustige Effekte. In die Mitte habe ich dann noch eine 3x120° Rotation eingebaut. Hier wurde das Licht und die Kamera bewegt.

In this picture, "double" rotation was used. For the first rotation in the middle, a training baseball was used. I did not move it, but only changed the colour.
The second rotation was created by an old bicycle rim, which I created with an LED strip (blue light traces) and a 10 mm thick glass fibre strand (orange light traces). The rim was oscillated here, i.e. it was not rotated in a circle, but only moved slightly so that it "oscillated" to the left and right. I then gave the camera a gift and then turned it by 60°. This procedure was carried out a total of six times (=360°). Unfortunately, I didn't take a photo of the Aufabu with the rim. I'll remember that next time.
In diesem Bild wurde "doppelt" rotiert. Für die erste Rotation in der Mitte kam ein Trainingsbaseball zum Einsatz. Diesen habe ich nicht bewegt, sondern nur die Farbe gewechselt.
Die zweite Rotation entstand durch eine alte Fahrradfelge, die ich mit einem LED-Band (blaue Lichtspuren) und einem 10 mm dicken Glasfaserstrang (orangene Lichtspuren) erzeugt habe. Die Felge wurde hier gependelt, also nicht im Kreis gedreht, sondern nur etwas bewegt, so dass diese nach links und rechts "pendelte". Dabei habe ich dann die Kamera geschenkt und anschließend um 60° gedreht. Diese Prozedur wurde insgesamt sechs Mal durchgeführt (=360°). Leider habe ich von dem Aufabu mit der Felge kein Foto gemacht. Beim nächsten Mal denke ich daran.

For this picture I used the same technique as in the other pictures. For the blue centre part, an LED band was turned and rotated (6x60°).
Für dieses Bild habe ich vom Prinzip die gleiche Technik eingesetzt, wie in den anderen Bildern. Für den blauen Mittelteil wurde ein LED-Band gedreht und rotiert (6x60°).

For the outer part of the image, I backlit a stencil and used the zoom on my lens. Then I rotated the camera and did the process six times.
The blue "rays" were then created with a black cardboard and three holes. The procedure here is the same as for the orange stencil.
Für den äußeren Teil des Bildes habe ich eine Schablone von hinten beleuchtet und den Zoom an meinem Objektiv genutzt. Anschließend hab ich auch hier die Kamera rotiert und den Vorgang insgesamt sechs Mal durchgeführt.
Die blauen "Strahlen" wurden dann mit einer schwarzen Pappe und drei Löchern erzeugt. Die Vorgehensweise ist hier die gleiche, wie bei der orangenen Schablone.

The result is certainly not a "masterpiece", which can only be seen in the Zuckerberg media anyway 😉. But that's not what it's all about for me. My plan was rather to combine techniques and expand my skills. If you never try something, you don't know if it works.
Das Ergebnis ist sicherlich keine "Masterpiece", die gibt es eh nur in den Zuckerberg-Medien zu sehen 😉. Aber darum geht es mir auch gar nicht. Mein Plan war eher Techniken zu kombinieren und meine Fähigkeiten zu erweitern. Wenn man nie etwas probiert, weiß man auch nicht, ob es funktioniert.

For the last picture of today's post, I worked with globes made of styrofoam. I first painted them black so that they would be easy to work with.
The large globe was then illuminated with red and yellow light. I mounted the camera on my CRT (Camera Rotation Tool) to rotate the globe slightly.
Für das letzte Bild des heutigen Beitrags habe ich mich mit Kugeln aus Styropor beschäftigt. Diese habe ich zunächst schwarz lackiert, damit es sich einfach damit arbeiten lässt.
Die große Kugel wurde anschließend mit rotem und gelben Licht angestrahlt. Die Kamera habe ich auf mien CRT (Camera Rotation Tool) montiert, um die Kugel leicht zu drehen.

Here is a picture of how the set-up looks. The principle is similar for the two blue globes in the large globe, but this time with blue light and a 180° rotation so that the small blue globe appears twice in the picture.
Hier mal ein Bild, wie der Aufbau aussieht. Für die beiden blauen Kugel in der großen Kugel, ist das Prinzip ähnlich. diesesmal aber mit blauem Licht und einer 180° Rotation, damit die kleine blaue Kugel doppelt im Bild erscheint.

As a third and final step, I fumbled the bokeh into the little globes with a few single strands of fibreglass. Here, too, I turned the camera 180°, as I wanted the bokeh to appear in both globes.
Oops, the article has become a bit longer and more detailed. That's enough explanations for today. But don't worry, the weather was not only bad once last year. And 2023 didn't get off to a good start either, as far as the weather is concerned. In the next part, "Alone at home", there will be other funny pictures from my little studio.

Als dritten und letzten Schritt habe ich dann mit ein paar einzelnen Strängen Glasfaser, das Bokeh in die kleinen Kugeln gefummelt. Auch hier habe ich die Kamera um 180° gedreht, da in beiden Kugeln das Bokeh erscheinen sollte.
Ups, der Artikel ist dann doch etwas länger und ausführlicher geworden. Für heute reicht es dann auch erstmal an Erklärungen. Aber keine Sorge, das Wetter war nicht nur einmal schlecht im letzten Jahr. Und auch 2023 ging nicht gut los, was das Wetter angeht. Im nächsten Teil "Allein zuhause" kommen noch andere lustige Bilder aus meinem kleinen Studio.
