Good afternoon out there.
Today's post is about light painting on a pyramid. No, @lichtkunstfoto and I didn't fly all the way to Egypt. And we didn't need to, because just outside Berlin, towards the east, there is a small version of a pyramid.
I have been allowed to spend a night at this pyramid a few times now. The shots in this post are compiled from several visits.

In meinem heutigen Beitrag geht es um Lightpainting an einer Pyramide. Nein, @lichtkunstfoto und ich sind nicht extra nach Ägypten geflogen. Das war auch gar nicht nötig, denn etwas außerhalb von Berlin, Richtung Osten, findet sich eine kleine Version einer Pyramide.
Ich durfte nun schon ein paar Mal an dieser Pyramide eine Nacht verbringen. Die Bilder in diesem Beitrag sind aus mehreren Besuchen zusammengestellt.
Unfortunately, this object of desire can only be used for light paintings from the outside. To prevent vandalism, the pyramid is locked at night. Today, an association takes care of the building. Historical shots taken on site show that the pyramid was not in good condition many years ago. It was a barely recognisable pyramid shape, more like a pile of rubble. It's nice that there are people who care about the preservation of such buildings.
For the cover picture I used my Emisar D18 with colour filters and mounted my camera on my Camera Rotation Tool. After each pass, the camera was rotated 120° (around the optical axis) further during the exposure.
Leider kann man dieses Objekt der Begierde nur von Außen für Light Paintings nutzen. Um Vandalismus vorzubeugen, ist die Pyramide Nachts verschlossen. Ein Verein kümmert sich heute um die Pflege des Baus. Auf historischen Bildern vor Ort, kann man sehen, dass die Pyramide vor vielen Jahren in keinem guten Zustand war. Eine kaum erkennbare Pyramidenform, eher ein Haufen Trümmer. Schön, dass es Menschen gibt, die sich um den Erhalt solcher Bauten kümmern.
Für das Titelbild habe ich meine Emisar D18 mit Farbfiltern genutzt und meine Kamera auf meinem Camera Rotation Tool montiert. Nach jedem Durchgang wurde die Kamera während der Belichtung um 120° (um die optische Achse) weitergedreht.

The Emisar D18 has 18 SST-20 LEDs built into the head (see picture), 4,000 K and a colour rendering index (CRI) of 95. One of my favourite lamps for even illumination of large areas. @lichtkunstfoto kindly printed me a matching attachment for colour filters. The lamp is nice and small, fits easily into any jacket pocket.

Die Emisar D18 hat im Kopf 18 SST-20 LEDs verbaut (siehe Bild), 4.000 K und einen Farbwiedergabeindex (CRI) von 95. Einer meiner Lieblingslampen für gleichmäßige Ausleuchtung von großen Flächen. @lichtkunstfoto hat mir freundlicherweise einen passenden Aufsatz für Farbfilter gedruckt. Die Lampe ist schön handlich und klein, passt locker in jede Jackentasche.

The Emisar D18 torch with colour filters was also used in this shot. On this night, the special challenge was the full moon in the sky, in our back, so behind the camera. The camera settings and my working speed had to fight against the moonlight. That's when you start to sweat.
I aligned the camera and the rotation axis, then started the camera. With the torch prepared, I walked to the pyramid and quickly got into position. First I illuminated the entrance area with an orange colour filter, which also created a silhouette of me. I quickly changed the colour filter to blue and illuminated the rest of the pyramid. While the exposure was still running, @lichtkunstfoto covered the lens so that the moon wouldn't light up the colours on the pyramid.
The camera was now turned 180° and I repeated the process described above. I didn't need to illuminate the trees in the background of the pyramid this time, the moon already did that during the exposure. Thank you, man in the moon.
Auch bei diesem Bild kam die Emisar D18 Taschenlampe mit Farbfiltern zum Einsatz. In dieser Nacht war die besondere Herausforderung der Vollmond am Himmel, in unserem Rücken, also hinter der Kamera. Die Einstellungen der Kamera und meine Arbeitsgeschwindigkeit mussten gegen das Mondlicht ankämpfen. Da kommt man dann auch mal ins schwitzen.
Ich habe die Kamera und Rotationsachse ausgerichtet, anschließend die Kamera gestartet. Mit der preparierten Taschenlampe bin ich zur Pyramide gelaufen und habe mich schnell in Position gebracht. Als erstes habe ich mit orangenen Farbfilter den Eingangsbereich ausgeleuchtet, dadurch entstand gleichzeitig eine Silhouette von mir. Schnell wechselte ich den Farbfilter auf blau und beleuchtete den Rest der Pyramide. Während die Belichtung noch lief, deckte @lichtkunstfoto das Objektiv ab, damit der Mond mir nicht die Farben an der Pyramide wegleuchtet.
Die Kamera wurde nun um 180° gedreht und ich wiederholte den oben beschriebenen Ablauf. Die Bäume im Hintergrund der Pyramide brauchte ich dieses Mal nicht beleuchten, dass hat der Mond schon während der Belichtung übernommen. Danke Mann im Mond.

Here you can see a shot where only the moon did the light painting. In 70 seconds, the moon illuminated the pyramid and its surroundings. So working against the moon and time is not exactly easy.
Hier seht Ihr mal ein Bild, wo nur der Mond das Light Painting gemacht hat. In 70 Sekunden hat der Mond die Pyramide samt Umgebung beleuchtet. Gegen den Mond und die Zeit zu arbeiten ist also nicht gerade einfach.

This shot was also transposed against the moonlight. I used a stencil to make the "beam" come out of the entrance to the pyramid. @lichtkunstfoto took care of an even lighting of the stencil. In this case, the torch was used in strobe mode and with a red colour filter. I panned the camera on the tripod to the right, which created the trace of light coming from the entrance of the pyramid. The camera was capped and turned back to the starting position. Now I grabbed a Convoy S2+ (light blue) and my Emisar D18 to illuminate the pyramid and the surroundings. The most difficult part was the stencil, which we repeated a few times until everything fit. For the rest, we needed speed again, to be faster than the old moon.
Auch dieses Bild wurde gegen das Mondlicht umgesetzt. Um den "Strahl" aus dem Eingang der Pyramide kommen zu lassen, hab ich eine Schablone genutzt. @lichtkunstfoto kümmerte sich um eine gleichmäßige Beleuchtung der Schablone. Die Taschenlampe wurde in diesem Fall im Stroboskop-Modus und mit einem roten Farbfilter genutzt. Ich schwenkte die Kamera auf dem Stativ nach rechts, dadurch entstand dann die Lichtspur, die aus dem Eingang der Pyramide kommt. Anschließend wurde die Kamera abgedeckt und wieder in die Ausgangsposition gedreht. Nun schnappte ich mir noch eine Convoy S2+ (hellblau) und meine Emisar D18, um die Pyramide, sowie die Umgebung zu beleuchten. Der schwierigste Teil, war der Part mit der Schablone, den wir ein paar Mal wiederholt haben, bis alles passte. Bei dem Rest war wieder Tempo gefragt, um schneller zu sein als der olle Mond.
