Hello friends of cultivated light art, today my little article is about crazy Sunday fun in my little studio. People often ask me how I come up with my ideas for pictures. Certainly other artists from the field of light art or from other art genres have a certain share in inspiring me. However, these artists have become fewer and fewer over time, which is partly due to the fact that the so-called mainstream only bluntly copies from each other. It's much easier, quicker and always a guarantee for many likes in the associate networks such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. Ultimately, however, everyone has to decide for themselves what they want to do. If it makes someone happy to copy the art of others 1:1, have fun with it! It's not my "sport" and probably never will be.
Hallo Freunde der gepflegten Lichtkunst, heute geht es in meinem kleinen Artikel um verrückten Sonntags-Spaß in meinem kleinen Studio. Oftmals werde ich gefragt, wie ich auf meine Bildideen komme. Ein gewissen Anteil haben sicherlich andere Künstler aus der Lichtkunst oder auch aus anderen Kunst-Genres, die mich inspirieren. Diese Künstler wurden allerdings mit der Zeit immer weniger, was u.a. daran liegt, dass der sogenannte Mainstream nur noch stumpf voneinander kopiert. Ist ja auch viel einfacher, geht schneller und ist immer ein Garant für viele Likes in den assozialen Netzwerken wie Facebook, Instagram und TikTok. Letztendlich muss aber jeder für sich selbst entscheiden was er tut. Wenn es jemanden glücklich macht, die Kunst von anderen 1:1 zu kopieren, viel Spaß dabei! Meine "Sportart" ist es nicht und wird es wohl auch nie werden.
No plan? No problem!
When I'm not on the road with other crazy and friendly light painters like @lichtkunstfoto, @candelart and Hans, or when I'm recovering from our night tours, Sunday is always the day when I go to my studio without a specific plan or image idea.
I then spend many hours, with a little music in the background, trying out new effects with materials and moving light in front of the camera. I love such moments very much, when I enter the world of light almost without a goal.
The cover picture was taken on one of these infamous Sundays. I started without an idea for a picture, just a rubber ball from a German junk shop, which is actually supposed to be a dog toy. I tried out a lot, combined different techniques and after a few hours the cover picture was created.
Kein Plan? Kein Problem!
Wenn ich nicht gerade mit anderen verrückten und sympatischen Lightpainter, wie @lichtkunstfoto, @candelart und Hans unterwegs bin oder ich mich von unseren nächtlichen Touren erholen muss, ist Sonntag immer der Tag, wo ich ohne konkreten Plan oder einer bestimmten Bildidee, in mein Studio gehe.
Ich verbringe dann viele Stunden, mit ein wenig Musik im Hintergrund und probiere neue Effekte mit Materialen und bewegtem Licht vor der Kamera aus. Ich liebe solche Momente sehr, wenn ich mich quasi ohne Ziel in die Welt des Lichts begebe.
Das Titelbild ist an einem dieser berüchtigeten Sonntage entstanden. Ich startete ohne Bildidee, nur mit einem Gummiball aus einem deutschen Ramschladen, der eigentlich ein Hundespielzeug sein soll. Ich probierte viel aus, kombinierte verschiedene Techniken und nach ein paar Stunden enstand dann das Titelbild.

Here is a picture of what this fun dog toy looks like in the original. The toy is available in different colours. With camera rotation, the light figure in the cover picture was created.
Hier mal ein Bild, wie dieses lustige Hundespielzeug im Original aussieht. Das Toy gibt es in verschiedenen Farben. Mit Kamerarotation enstand dann die Lichtfigur im Titelbild.

The small dots of light in the outer area of the cover picture were created with glass fibre. This tool is also available in different versions. In this case I used blackzw glass fibre, where only the tips at the end shine. It is also available in white, pink, green or blue. In the example picture you can see black fibreglass on the left and white fibreglass on the right.
Die kleinen Lichtpunkte im äußeren Bereich des Titelbildes sind mit Glasfaser entstanden. Auch dieses Werkzeug gibt es in verschiedenen Ausführungen. In diesem Fall habe ich schwarzw Glasfaser genutzt, wo nur die Spitzen am Ende leuchten. Es gibt diese auch in weiß, pink, grün oder blau. Im Beispielbild seht Ihr links schwarze und rechts weiße Glasfaser.
The next picture was also taken on a Sunday "without a plan" in my small studio. I started with just a piece of black photo cardboard, where I made holes with a needle, arranged in a semicircle. I have attached a picture further down in this article. The patterns around the light figure in the middle were created by a combination of camera rotation and zoom. To make this pattern symmetrical, I calculated beforehand how many degrees I had to rotate and how far I had to zoom in. If you are good at maths, you can remember the values or make notes.
Auch das nächste Bild ist an einem Sonntag "ohne Plan" in meinem kleinen Studio entstanden. Ich startete nur mit einem Stück schwarzem Fotokarton, wo ich mit einer Nadel Löcher reingemacht habe, in einem Halbkreis angeordnet. Weiter unten in diesem Artikel habe ich euch ein Bild beigefügt. Die Muster um die Lichtfigur in der Mitte sind durch die Kombination von Kamerarotation und Zoom entstanden. Damit dieses Muster symmetrisch wird, habe ich mir vorher ausgerechnet, um wieviel Grad ich rotieren muss und wie weit ich jeweils zoomen muss. Wenn man gut in Mathematik ist kann man sich die Werte merken oder sich Notizen machen.

For the small green/blue light figure in the middle, I swapped lenses during the exposure so that the light figure would be small, fit in the middle and still have enough distance to the rotated and zoomed "dots".
Für die kleine grün/blaue Lichtfigur in der Mitte, habe ich während der Belichtung das Objektiv gewechselt, damit die Lichtfigur klein wird, in die Mitte passt und noch ausreichend Abstand zu den Rotierten und gezoomten "Dots" hat.

The "cloudy" background, or bokeh, was created with a piece of "effect paper", also from the junk shop. When light (in this picture blue light) hits the paper from a certain angle, this "cloudy" bokeh is created. You can see what the paper looks like in the next picture.
Der "wolkige" Hintergrund oder auch das Bokeh, entstand mit einen Stück "Effektpapier" ebenfalls aus dem Ramschladen. Wenn Licht (in diesem Bild blaues Licht) aus einem bestimmten Winkel auf das Papier trifft, ensteht dieses "wolkige" Bokeh. Wie das Papier aussieht, könnte ihr im nächsten Bild sehen.

The last Image in today´s article here on Hive was also taken in a Sunday session. Some time ago I made geometric stencils like circles, triangles, squares, hexagons etc.. 'A brilliant idea I had at the time somehow not. So I started with coffee and music in my Sunday "I have no plan"- session.
Das letzte Bild des heutigen Artikels hier auf Hive entstand ebenfalls in einer Sonntags-Session. Vor einiger Zeit habe ich mal geometrische Schablonen, wie Kreise, Dreiecke, Quadrate, Sechsecke usw. gebastelt. Eine zündende Idee hatte ich zu dem damaligen Zeitpunkt irgendwie nicht. Also startete ich mit Kaffee und Musik in meine sonntägliche "Ich habe keinen Plan" - Session.

In addition to the circle stenci, which I rotated and zoomed to create the light figure, a piece of effect paper was used again in the background, which was also zoomed. For the stencil I used red and yellow light in alternation.
Neben der Kreisschablone, die ich rotiert und gezoomt habe, um die Lichtfigur entstehen zu lassen, kam im Hintergrund wieder ein Stück Efffektpapier zum Einsatz, welches ebenfalls gezoomt wurde. Für die Schablone habe ich rotes und gelbes Licht im Wechsel benutzt.

Here are a few more pictures of the stencils, which I cut out of black cardboard. So that the light is spread more evenly, I have additionally stuck white transparent paper behind it.
I´m already at the end of my article today. I hope I could give you a little insight into my world of light. By the way, tomorrow is sunday, guess what I´m doing? 😎
Hier noch ein paar Bilder zu den Schablonen, die ich aus schwarzem Fotokarton ausgeschnitten habe. Damit isch das Licht gleichmäßiger verteilt, habe ich zusätzlich noch weißes Transparentpapier dahinter geklebt.

I use several techniques, such as camera rotatio, panning, tripod and lens swapping, and a few other secret techniques while the exposure is running. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.
