"People who love themselves don't hurt other people. The more we hate ourselves, the more we want others to suffer."
I believe that everyone has at least been bullied once in their life, and it is just whether you realize that it is bullying or not.
Before we get on with the points, what is bullying? How would you define bullying? I believe that this word, "bullying," is not unfamiliar to all of us, and we do understand that bullying is when a person is harming or humiliating another person. Other than that, bullying can also be described as a person who treats others abusively.
There are many types of bullying, mainly, physically, mentally, verbally, and the latest form of bullying is on the internet.
Everyone in the world has access to the internet, and many utilize social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok. Cyberbullying has become more damaging and destructive than verbal (emotional) bullying and is increasing in time because once it is online, it will forever be online, even though the original post has been taken down, others share this information with others, hence making it hard to remove from the web.
The reason why cyberbullying is increasing is that the bully feels safe behind the screen. No one knows them, and therefore, they may post or comment as they please without feeling guilty. Nobody knows what they do behind closed doors.
For example, posting mean comments on the victim’s Facebook wall or Twitter feed, posting embarrassing pictures online (such as creating a meme out of them), and even posting Photoshopped photos with the intention of embarrassing other people.
The question here is, how can we stop them? Staying calm is a must. A cool head will do so much good because you will know how to react and defend yourself better. One vital point in preventing yourself from being bullied is to ignore them. When they do not get the reaction that they want from you, they will eventually stop.
What you must never do is hold things in. Bottling up your feelings is only going to make things more complicated. No one can help you if you don't help yourself by seeking the help you need. Especially, do not let your future self regret not getting the help you deserve. Your silence will poison them.
Children should be able to live a life free from bullying and harassment, and it is time that we all took a stand against this. For everyone being bullied, please remember that they are scared of you. You have something they don't have, and that's what makes them bully you. If they don't like you for being yourself, be even more yourself.
Each of us deserves the freedom to pursue our version of happiness. No one deserves to be bullied. And for the person who bullies, you think that bullying is brutal, it's not tough. You want to know what tough is? Go up to the people you tease and apologize. You want to know what tough is? Go up to the people who tease you and say Please stop. That's tough.
How many suicides have to take place before society realizes that bullying kills people? How do we get through to people that pulling someone down won't make you reach the top? It's not funny, and it's not a game.
We, as a community, need to be that support network for the person who was bullied and who can't speak for themselves; we need to be the change. Bullying occurs far more often than it should, but you always have the power to make a difference. If someone is alone on the playground, will you offer to be his friend?
If someone gets pushed down, will you lift them back up? If a friend is sad because of a mean text or message, will you send some kind words to make her smile? If someone puts you down, will you believe them or choose to believe in yourself? Be part of the positive, not the negative. Speak up and spread kindness.
