I believe in the 'Adapt or Die' mindset. If you hold on to something that does not work, you will find yourself living in a world where nothing works. In business you will find yourself on a sinking boat.
Starting out I confined WSDC to a women only training school. When the first class had an attendance too low to cover the costs I realized a change is due.
I looked at it carefully. The first thing in my way is the ridiculous travel expenses I have to get to a class. I opted to change to a premises closer to home. I changed from Stellenbosch to a premises in Somerset West where a ten minute walk will have me at the class, no more travelling expenses. I also get it at an hourly rate, not a per person rate, so having one or two people in a class is not really a problem.
I also changed from the thing everyone teach for self defense to target based training. We teach our students to attack specific targets, explaining the why, the expected results and the legal standing.
Even though we teach violence to protect against violence we have a lot of emphasis on preventing, deescalating and the consequences of an illegal attack. Defending yourself can easily be seen as attack if you are outside the legal parameters.
Our first classes in Somerset West starts in a few weeks so I will update you then.
