I've gotten into disagreement with people over this stance and at the same time I have not had the best way to say exactly what I mean. Taking control over your fitness at the moment is my way of saying that if you can do a good thing, then you should aim for it. 1
But what does it mean to be able to do it?
I fell sick early this month and I could have spent my time stressing some more that day and prolonged the time it would take me to get better. In fact, I did that for a while.
Until I got 2 days worth of rest I didn't get better in addition I was stressing over growing my Social media accounts, I was skipping drugs it was not until I took 2 days off that I got better.
My ultimate goal was to start my 1 year daily workout non-stop and just at the beginning of the count I had fallen sick and couldn't keep up.
It's not an impossible goal to accomplish, but obviously I am not going to attain that goal if I'm sick and in need of bed rest. If I'm going to make that out then I would also need to do my best not to fall sick too.
That is what taking control over now means in fitness, My goal is not to miss a day of workout...Because I've already messed that up, I'll start again while making sure that I don't fall that ill over the next 365 days or at least so sick that I can't work out even just a little.
The year I missed some time from my workout, was not because I was sick but I accept that it was a time of learning for me.
In this post we are going to be learning ways to stick to fitness goals simply by doing what is necessary in the moment. This is called Psychological Flexibility and it is the only thing that has kept me at peace in these really weird times when I can't do all the things I want to do.2
This noise is constant in our thoughts and keeps us thinking that we are supposed to be somewhere else. If we did this then we would have had that or if only this person in our lives was this then we would have had that.
The past thoughts as well as thoughts about the future are all illusions created by our mind. The fact of the matter is we don't know where we would be if we did all the things we thought we should have done but our mind is designed to find problems and solve them so the past and the future are two that do not allow us to let go of.
Research tells us that the mind is better at adding things when "problem-solving" rather than removing them. So in the past, we are adding and attributing signs and figures that are not there in the first place.3
When we think about the future we are either optimistic or pessimistic about it. We don't necessarily see it as a goal to attain, we instead see ourselves with certain tools or without necessary tools for the task at hand
But where are you now? You want to lose weight because you are overweight or you want to gain weight because you are underweight or you want to look more attractive? Whatever you motivation for the goal is matters less than what you do for the goal at the end of the day.4
Have you ever thought about what an anti-gym goal would look like? This is not just about not exercising or not eating right. The enemy to your gym goal is not doing what it takes at the moment to see that improvement take place.
Every time you ruminate about just how wonderful it will be to see your dreams come true, you are working against your goal. It is the same thing as thinking back at how badly you've done and how poor your efforts have been in the past.
There is no way to know what challenges lie ahead of you...I mean besides the routine ones like getting out of bed, having a bath, going to work...those ones are a constant and will always be in front of you. But to think that you can predict the future based on the past is to fall into an anti-goal attainment.
It is a fruitless endeavour, a fruitless exercise.

So maybe you should consider that when you mindlessly ruminate on random things that your mind throws at you.

One thing most people who want to go to the gym fail to consider is the psychological aspect of the reason they fail to go to the gym. It is like a missed opportunity because the truth of the matter is, how you do one thing, is how you do everything.
I don't mean this in the shallow sense that how you clean your room is how you care for your spouse but how you figure out one thing applies to many other aspects of your life.
Eventually, there is this cloud of who you are right above your head telling you what to do and what not to do.
So instead of letting this cloud be dusty and filled with remorse and anxiety about anything. Don't let it hang over your head...let it go...so that how you do things will show just want you want in life.
So, Get out there do your thing and don't let anybody stop you, even if the person trying to stop you is you. Subscribe and Like for More!!
