Community Days have always had a nostalgic charm for me: a little walk, some time outside, and the thrill of adding another sparkly creature to the Shiny Collection. But this time around, it didn’t go as smoothly. The shiny Pokémon was more elusive than usual, and I started to worry that I might miss out entirely. Thankfully, persistence (and a bit of fast-paced walking) finally paid off. The Shiny was secured.
However, the real curveball was discovering—mid-walk—that to evolve Pawmi into its final form and unlock the exclusive Community Day move, I needed to walk with it as my buddy first. Cue the frantic checking of the clock: I had less than an hour left in the event.
So there I was, picking up the pace, walking longer than I originally planned, just to grind out the necessary distance. It was a classic Pokémon GO moment: the perfect mix of fun, frustration, and fitness. I barely made it in time, but I did—Shiny acquired, evolution completed, exclusive move secured.
It did make me pause, though. As much as I’ve let my Community Day prep slide lately, these events still bring me joy. I love the ritual, the hunt, and the mini adventure—even when they come at the last minute. With summer travel on the horizon, and life feeling busier than ever, I’m debating setting reminders again just to stay in the loop. At the very least, I want to make sure I don’t miss out on moments like these.
After all, Pokémon GO is one of the few games that makes travel even more fun—spinning gyms and stops around the world, tracking new creatures in unfamiliar cities, and keeping my Pokédex globally diverse.
