Oh, what? It's Monday already? I can already feel it's going to be a hectic week in our little homeschool but first, let me share our little family escapade yesterday.
Sublime Sunday
I mentioned a while back that I am trying to be more active these days for that badly needed weight loss. :D One of the activities I love is going to the beach for a jog. Most of the time, the husband comes with me. Hence more beach posts here recently. It being a Sunday, we made it a family activity.
We woke the kids up at 6am and we prepared to leave. The fog was thick, but it was not cold. Just right. We passed by a Filipino bread shop first to buy pandesal so we could also have breakfast at the beach.
Not allowed in the water
The lifeguard had to remind us that we cannot go far into the water. He allowed us up to ankle-deep. Beyond that, he would blow his whistle already! :D
He even apologized that we could not swim due to very poor visibility. I told him there was no issue since we came with no intention to swim anyway. Yay, good we brought some breakfast. Coffee at the beach was great.
Jellyfish! Jellyfish!
While walking along the shore, we found a dead jellyfish. We thought that was an isolated occurrence, but we eventually found a few more throughout the stretch of the beach. The lifeguards assured us that it was not a cause for concern, though another mom got a bit more panicky every time her kids got into the water.
Husband even held the dead jellyfish for the kids to be able to observe it more closely. Hey, even I have not seen a jellyfish up close until this time.
"Vulnerable Specie"
Though we have walked several times here at this beach, it was only now that I took notice of what was written on the big board at the end of the beach. It was about a bird species, Socotra Cormorant (Phalacrocorax nigrogularis), a blackish bird with a length of about 80 cm. This species, categorized as "vulnerable" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, were recorded to have been spotted in 5 sites in Abu Dhabi.
Fog lifted.
The fog was so thick that I expected it to clear at around 9am when the sun shines stronger, but it only lifted up at almost 10am. The lifeguard was kind enough to approach us to let us know that swimming was already allowed. We did not bring any swimming suits for the kids but they still got their way into the water. They ended up going home wet. LOL.
We promised them we will come back next week, ready for a swim. Hopefully, the water won't be too cold. :D
