Introduction
There are often times that we experience moments of euphoria. It might be for a minute or a whole week in which we are just filled with positive energy. We are in a good mood.
These may often be caused by met targets/goals, doing something we love, starting something new or even improving in our relationships. It goes on and on. We find ourselves on the wheels to "jollywood" and we feel untouchable.
Learning in person
Now, I want to say that I experience these days a lot. Even now. I'm going through that phase and the reason is because I've been meeting my targets and smashing goals. Meh.
What I really want to talk about is the pattern of how this whole thing works. Speaking from personal experience, these are the moments that I should be more careful. We make mistakes during the dark times of our lives but we make costly mistakes during the euphoric moments.
See, I know this pattern. It happens a lot and I've always been foolish enough to overlook it because I thought it was normal. I mean we learn by making mistakes right? But the truth is, a mistake repeated is mere stupidity.
In case you're still lost, I'm talking about the the pattern that displays before the fall.
An Illustration
For example, using Hive. You set a goal to engage thirty people from six different communities, go through your feed and engage ten more, browse through other frontends like LeoFinance and learn something new.
Also on your list, you set to continue with your project writing. Enumerate people you have to call for an important task. You also pen down reading your motivational book.
Now, you wake up the next day and wow! You're just on fire. You keep going, engaging, commenting and just being awesome. You learn something new and even find new opportunities. You get new followers and add to that project. You call and chat up some people because it has really been a long time coming. After everything, you still have time to relax and binge on that book.
How would you feel at the end of the day? Fulfilled. You feel confident. You may even deliberately leave your house to go for a walk and just enjoy beautiful nature. Your walking step is different.
This is what discipline does. It boosts your confidence. But does anyone notice that it's during this time we are most tempted to rest?
The Fall - Watch Out!
We might wake up the next day and decide to browse through Twitter or Instagram because we did 'enough' yesterday. Our body relaxes to the cajoling of the mind. We listen to our desires.
It may not happen the next day but maybe a week after, a month or even two. The main point is, do not believe it is enough.
Conclusion
I am still talking to my mind to grow past that trickery. Like I said in my previous post, it is easy to form bad habits. Trust me when I say that healthy habits cultivated over the years could easily be dropped if care is not taken.
So we have to be really intentional and disciplined in building (I'm honestly fighting with my mind as I write this post) whatever it is we want to see in ourselves.
