I've told this story before I believe but just to recap; The little antique shop downtown here has a few coins. I got chatty with the owner and he told me he was buying a coin collection owned currently by an older lady. This collection was assembled by her father AND her grandfather!!!
He has anywhere from 50 to 75 pieces of this collection out at any given time and he tells me it is just a fraction of her collection. He just buys chunks as he needs to replenish his stock. I can say he has some very nice pieces. Here's one. Here's another.
Anyhow, I picked this 1884 Peru Un Sol at said shop recently.
I like the design of this coin. The lettering on the reverse is in decent shape, it translates to "steady and happy for the union"
Here's some detail..
Here's some info on the obverse from http://typesets.wikidot.com/peru:seatedsol
The obverse is emblazoned with the coat of arms of Peru, which is represented with Peruvian symbols, such as the national animal of Peru, the llama-like Vicuña (the South American version of a camel). To the right is the Peruvian national tree (a quina tree), and below is a cornucopia overflowing with coins, symbolizing Peru’s great wealth of precious metals. On the outer periphery are the words "REPUBLICA PERUANA" and "LIMA" (for the Lima Mint).
...cornucopia overflowing with coins 😍
The shopkeeper puts the coins in the paper protectors but all the info is copied from the collectors card that they have with each coin. He's shown me the way the coins look when he gets them and it's awesome. Meticulous is a word that comes to mind, which sure helps me buy with confidence.
I think he sold me a coin in the original plastic flip with the card the collectors made. I'll have to check the stack...later... ;)
