Hi everyone! Time for another explainer for Splinterlands, because it's a great game but with a steep learning curve, but then again... most good games have the same.
In the splinterlands collaboration with the Wasder app, we made a new guild to support and guide new players, and I started writing explainers to refer to, because it's just too much to simply tell people in our discord server.
Are you a new player who wants a nice team to work with and get some advice and support where needed? Feel free to join our Discord server.
In my explainer series I made some posts before:
Getting started in Splinterlands.
Battle basics, rulesets and card placement.
Last week, I made the first post in my 'The obvious, not so obvious serie'
You can find it here.
For us Splinter junkies some things are so obvious, while they are not at all for players starting and learning the ropes, so I want to talk about some basics and strategies I'm using in different rulesets to help you guys get some guidance because there's just too much to remember. In my country we have a saying, literally translated it goes: you can no longer see the wood because of the trees 😅
In my own gameplay doing ranked battles, brawls and sometimes a tournament I'll try and write down tips I can talk about here, I'll try to make 2 or 3 tips in every edition, depending on how long my post is because no one wants to read for 15 minutes right?
#1: With Equalizer ruleset, always try to fill all six card positions.
Equalizer: all units start with the same health, based on the highest health on either team.
So, don't focus on bringing your BEST high HP cards, focus on filling every position, life leech or a healer as your last cards can help out too. Instead, hope your opponent is dumb enough to bring a very high HP monster (and probably high mana cost) so he can't fill all positions!

My opponent has 4 times 4 = 16 HP I need to kill, while my team has 4 times 6 = 24 HP my opponent needs to kill at the start of the battle, my life leech will be more effective than his healer, it's not very effective to heal low HP monsters, but that's tip 2 for today 😆.
You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

At the end of round 2, his main damage dealer, Pelacor Arbalest is in the front position, unable to shoot because he's an archer. His team HP is now only 5, while my team still has 20.
Easy win! 👍
#2: Only use heal with a higher HP tank.
In the previous tip there already was 1 example, it's pretty useless bringing a healer to your team when you don't have a high HP tank.
Heal: Restores 1/3 of the max health, rounded down.
So when you bring a 4 HP tank, you're only going to heal 1 HP every turn, and that is only IF your monster doesn't get killed before you can heal 😄.
On the other hand, if you bring a 10 HP tank, you're going to heal 3 HP every round!

This battle is not the best example, because my opponents plan was to Taunt / Triage, but you'll get the idea.
You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.
#3: With scattershot ruleset, blast is very effective!
So, if you can, try to bring blast monsters to your battles with the Scattershot ruleset, when you're lucky and the monster hits the middle of the opponents team it does damage to 3 monsters!
Blast: Does additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster,
additional damage is equivalent to main damage divided by 2, rounded up.
A few affordable monsters that have this ability:
- Fire Elemental
- Goblin Tower
- Prismoligist
- Scavo Technomancer
- Riverboat Captain
As an example I want to share this battle:

My plan: Void Armor gives every monsters 1 extra hit to survive, bring Pelacor Conjurer to dodge attacks or reflect magic damage, When Drybone Barbarian gets enraged it does massive damage while it won't take the full load like usually because of the scattershot, making him survive much longer. I brought a heal AND a repair for extra survivability.
You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.
Look at the difference at the end of round 2 😆...

My opponent had some bad luck too, because his magic attacker targeted my Pelacor Conjurer who reflected the amplified damage, Drybone Barbarian doing massive damage!
Well, that's already it for this week! I'll try and write down more tips when I think of them in my battles, just keep on grinding and keep your energy level below 50 at all times to get maximum value out of your account! (small tip nr. 4 😁)
