Yes, the founders have specifically stated that in the Maverick's forum on Discord. I imagine that there will be more cards than in Magic The Gathering or Hearthstone one day. We are still far away from that. You are right, there will be many more to pick from and hence more to know for players, who want to get very high up the ladder. I don't think it will negatively impact the game though in any way. And most people will never be able to afford the old cards anyways, as prices are already through the roof, so they will only see the new cards in their collection. Early investors and players will have a much larger variety of cards but also come with more experience.
