I can remember the first time I learned about Steemit — the excitement, the joy and the spirit of exploring the unknown. I was all giddy in spreading the good news. It was as if I found the fountain of youth. I told my family, friends and perhaps I’d go beyond telling strangers.
An instant believer of Steemit
I instantly became a believer and supporter. I imagined a future with Steemit. For my first 100 days, I was filled with excitement in creating content, despite the small pennies earned. I pressed on, and I kept trying my luck. Little did I know that it was subtly tiring me out.
By the way, even up to know, I just have 1 post that I would describe as “successful”. But looking at the bright side, at least I was able to get one.
Burning out + disappointment
Day by day, I was as if losing burning a small piece of me. Until one day, I realized that I was burnt out. I was no longer enjoying the process, and I only got frustrated and disappointed over the “lack of appreciation”. This resulted to my waning activity in the community. I wasn’t even able to finish my 30-day challenge.
Finding my way back
As I start to realize that not everything is really about “earning”, I realized that I’ll still be active, and try to pour out my thoughts. After all, this is a friendly space for me to just share a piece of my thoughts. So I guess, yeah, I’m staying for the community — for the liberty to just blabber about things (yet hopefully producing something useful or inspiring for others).
Not giving up and adjusting the lens
Feelings fade. This explains why the joy I initially experienced eventually died down. But just like infatuation and/or love, it can be rekindled by having “fresher lens”, or making ourselves experience things as if it was our first. I’m looking back right now to learn once again the “whys” as to why I joined Steemit.
I’m not giving up on this platform because doing so is like giving up on the chance to express myself. To those who may be experiencing frustration or demotivation, I urge you to not give up and start looking back. Better yet, start looking with fresher eyes. Let’s make this work! Cheers!
