01. Overview
The Community Well Project is commonly referred to as 'Ghana wells' or simply 'boreholes' and is a highly-intricate project that aims to demonstrate the physical impact of Hive.
The wells are physical Hive-branded structures that are strategically located around the Ghana city of Kumasi. Numerous communities lack ready access to potable water and rely on water that is trucked into them from outside sources or on either streams or wells that are located a long distance away. A well that is accessible greatly improves the quality of life for the local people.
The project is executed from start to finish within Ghana with no external entities, save for the Hive ecosystem which is jointly owned by all members, involved.

04. Activity Review
A total of 1560 persons, which includes large number of children, attended various events. Due to the crowds being mixed in terms of age it is not possible to determine how many people understood the significance of Hive during the attended activity. However, we may safely assume that children will recognize Hive in the future when they become adults and their inclusion in the events in a safe and friendly manner helped nurture a new generation to embrace decentralized technology.
Hive Wells 2022
First Hive Well (17 April)
Fawoade, Ghana

The project was successfully completed with minor issues due to an increase in logistics costs. Members of the community valued the well and turned it into a major water supply station.
Second Hive Well (12 June)
Agona Bedomase, Ghana

A magnificent hive borehole dedicated to the community. Because it is now the only source of water supply for the entire community and its surroundings, the borehole serves both the whole community and its atmosphere.
Third Hive Well (1 July)
Anwomaso, Ghana

The chief and the whole community were engaged in this Hive borehole to promote the usage of Hive in improving their life. Its achievement earned the Hive ecosystem a lot of publicity in Ghanaian media.
Fourth Hive Well (20 August)

This borehole's massive attendance ensured students and community members a strong belief in internet and technology. The continual rise in the cost of building materials was a major issue. Students participated in joining Hive.
Fifth Hive Well (4 October)

Jamasi Dawu is said to be the only community that was startled by the availability of a blockchain platform to address their big social concern. A well-drilled borehole benefits the community.
Hive Wells 2023
One well has been installed in its entirety so far and another well has been repaired and then outfitted. Both wells are in the same community. Normally we would only place one well per community in order to evenly distribute the water, but in this case as a second well existed but was hopelessly broken, we added a little more funding and repaired it. We ended up with two wells for a lower cost and helped more people gain accessible, clean water.
Impacts of 2023 Well
Both communities were at odds before the Hive borehole for the town. Leaders from both communities attempted multiple times to reconcile but were unsuccessful. The arrival of the Hive borehole pushed leaders from both communities to band together so that they could both profit from the Hive well constructed. Both communities are now collaborating to maintain the Hive borehole running. To guarantee that the resource is allocated evenly, the borehole is currently managed by a committee including representatives from both communities, with the approval of Hive borehole managers. As a consequence of this shared commitment, the inhabitants have formed a sense of community and togetherness due to the Hive borehole.
Workbooks
The distribution of workbooks to school children met with much acclaim. As this was a pilot project that came about when need became apparent, not enough workbooks were printed to satisfy the full demand of distribution.

A successful distribution, although unfortunately most kids were unable to profit due to the large number of students. Unavailability of internet was a major problem in the village.

The books assisted them a lot in supporting the instructors in their learning since school has numerous problems. Students adore Hive books and want to share them with others, but they also want to be a part of the Hive blockchain.
05. Finances
Event Costs
Hive Merchandise
Merchandise has been limited to several types so far as oversaturation would compromise the intent of the project. The project is about showing what Hive can do as a decentralized ecosystem and what positive physical impacts it can make on society.
Regardless, professionalism is maintained as with all other Value Plan projects. Hive representatives wear Hive-branded shirts and through their own initiatives have created ID tags sporting their accounts.
The only piece of distributed merchandise are Hive-branded notebooks for children. School children in Ghana must purchase their own learning materials which include their notebooks, which can put a strain on their family's income. Hive-branded notebooks provide them with a much-needed item while at the same time giving them an age-appropriate "gift" from Hive.
The message at the back of each notebook does not simplify Hive but instead summarizes it in a succinct manner. Teenagers who are deciding on their educational path are thus provided with information on an accessible technology that welcomes them.
In addition to the Hive books, Hive-branded pens have been produced to assist school pupils in their educational endeavors. At the time of writing this report, just 50 copies had been produced to assist with the continuing book distribution. Hive is excited to produce additional pens for future events and activities aimed at improving education in Ghanaian villages.

06. Onboarding
Unfortunately it is impossible to track how many individuals have found their way to Hive from participating in events and from benefiting from the wells installed in their communities. There are many people who end up going home and learning about Hive on their own time, only to be onboarded and create their accounts at that point. Currently about 30 active members are recognised to have joined Hive as a result of the ongoing Hive borehole. As this is not a straight marketing event but rather an impact event (and series of events), it would be inappropriate to push onboarding at the event itself. That would ruin the integrity of the event and make it about Hive where in reality, the event is about the local community and the impact.

Overview
The 2023 borehole, the first of the year, supplies around 250-300 residents of the receiving areas each day from the two boreholes. It has been agreed upon with the leaders of both towns to sustain and maintain the project for the benefit of both. The Hive borehole managers are continuously in contact with this and other boreholes to ensure that the project is being monitored effectively. The next weeks will prepare the managers to guarantee that preparations are made to expand the Hive borehole to additional needy areas and that the year is planned. Hive is dedicated to improving Ghanaian communities via its empowerment efforts.
08. Challenges and Opportunities
The biggest challenge that this project can experience is weather-based as it involves working outdoors and then conducting the opening ceremony outdoors. We must simply hope that the weather is always on our side.The constant rise in commodity costs because by global economic crises has an impact on the budget of the Hive borehole project. These are unexpected, but provisions are always made to guarantee the project runs well.
As far as opportunities go, the Community Well Project is positioned and is acting as a central focal project for the entirety of Hive in Ghana. When we start with social impact we can go much further. In the near future (keep your eyes peeled!) we will see activities both in the North, West and Eastern of Ghana. In the North there will be a focus on working with students to show them how Hive supports education and how anything is possible with Hive. In the South there will be a major focus on B2B and vendors. All of this is currently under development and more will be revealed very shortly. Nonetheless, everyone is very excited about what the future holds.
