🗞 Historic Drop in WTI Crude Oil Futures Hardly Rattles Bitcoin Price

As reported earlier by Cointelegraph, the May 2020 Futures contract for West Texas Intermediate (WTI) Crude dropped more than 100% on Monday. At its worst the price reached negative $37.63, a phenomenon which has never occurred before.

The June WTI contract with a May 19 expiry date also dropped nearly 20% to $20.43 per barrel and Barclays IPATH ETN (OIL) fell to $3.50.

Less than a month ago, OPEC and Russia ended their oil war by agreeing to cut production by 9.7 million barrels per day on May 1 but at this point any confidence inspired by the deal has likely evaporated.

What about Bitcoin?

Bitcoin (BTC) price also corrected 4.23% as WTI futures imploded and at the time of writing the cryptocurrency trades for $6,820. As the decline in oil prices kicked off, Bitcoin price dropped below the $7,200 support after failing to overcome the $7,277 resistance over the weekend.

🗞 CFTC Approves Bitnomial to Offer Futures Contracts Settled in Real Bitcoin

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) approved Bitnomial Exchange to operate as a designated contracts market (DCM), meaning the exchange can now offer bitcoin futures and options contracts.

The approval, granted Monday, brings a new player to the still-small world of bitcoin futures in the U.S.

To date, only CME, Cboe, Bakkt, ErisX and LedgerX offer bitcoin futures and options contracts, though Cboe ended its contract in early 2019 and ErisX sees little volume on its futures. Unlike CME, Bitnomial appears to be focusing strictly on physically-settled contracts, meaning customers receive the actual bitcoin when the contract expires, rather than the fiat equivalent.

🗞 dForce Hacker Returns Almost All of Stolen $25M in Crypto

The hacker that drained $25 million in cryptocurrency from decentralized finance protocol dForce over the weekend has sent back almost all the stolen assets.

According to data visible on the Ethereum blockchain, multiple transactions were initiated from 6:00 UTC on Tuesday from an address labelled "Lendf.Me Hack" to the admin address for the Lendf.Me project.

The transactions included some extremely large amounts, such as one for 57,992 ether (ETH), the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum blockchain – an amount worth around $10 million at press time.

Tencent’s digital bank WeBank is integrating the DAML smart contract language for the chain that will undergird China’s national Blockchain-Based Service Network.

Tencent’s digital bank WeBank is exploring the integration of the DAML smart contract language for its consortium blockchain FISCO BCOS — the chain that will undergird China’s national Blockchain-Based Service Network (BSN).

On April 16, WeBank announced that integration of the Digital Asset Modeling Language (DAML) — open sourced by its creator, software firm Digital Asset, last year — would help it deliver pioneering blockchain solutions across finance, supply chain and other sectors in China and worldwide.
