Right now I'm making an important move that involves the lives of five other people making a big change in their life.
We are on the count down and I want to make the most of what time I have in preparations. There is no time for getting sidetracked.
I want to remain mentally clear and not have my thoughts on the past or allow fears about the future.
I'm very much aware of how my thoughts about the past, present, and future affect how I make decisions and behave. They can be a hindrance to my progress if I get boggled down and focus too much on what happened in the past or what may happen in the future.
I can control where my mind goes and how long it stays on a thought especially when I need to focus on the present.
Here's some tips I use to deal with the distracting issues and shift my focus back to the present that were passed on to me from my friend Crissy.
Take care of your past with an attitude of forgiveness for any past failures
Feel your emotions. Burying what you feel is one of the worst things you can do. Try sitting quietly with your emotions.
Talk with your inner critic. Write down what he or she says in a journal and counter the mental attack.
Stop ruminating. Don’t keep replaying the same situations over and over in your head.
Be mindful of your thoughts. Your thoughts determine your life. If you want a happy, positive life then your thoughts need to be happy and positive, too.
Know who you are. Remind yourself that you are more than your mistakes.
Be kind to yourself especially if you’re experiencing emotional paralysis
Focus on your breath. Feel the air as it enters and leaves your lungs.
Pay attention to your body. Periodically pause throughout the day to listen to what your physical being is telling you.
Don't compare yourself to others. You are a unique being and there is no one quite like you in the entire universe.
Stop worrying about the past and future. You can’t change the past and you can’t control the future.
Remember that mistakes are what allows you to grow. Learn from your mistakes.
If you are afraid of something take the time to face it down - it can be very empowering!
Getting Your Mind Back on Track
Expect changes to your schedule. Create blank spaces when scheduling for those unplanned events that may pop up.
Look for patterns. When you mess up, try to see what the larger pattern is so you can change it.
Keep your goal/the why of what you are doing, in sight. Visual reminders are powerful!
Organize your environment. Clutter kills mindfulness so work to remove that clutter (in all its forms.)
Looking Ahead to a Brighter Future
Create what you want. Take responsibility for bringing things into your reality.
Don’t just look at the future. Visualize the steps you’ll need to take to get to where you want to be.
Learn to expect better of yourself. Don’t let yourself off the hook to often, but neither be too harsh on yourself aim for your greatest potential.
Take action now. Stop procrastinating and do what needs to be done.
Upon Encountering Roadblocks
Be persistent. Few things in life come easy. Expect to work harder and longer than you originally planned to.
Distance yourself. Take time away when a problem is stumping you.
Keep a growth mindset, viewing things as experiments.
Use your roadblocks. Focus on what you can learn from this experience and how you can become stronger because of them. If you fail at something it is not the end, it’s just another comma in your story.
Build your resilience. Bouncing back isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it.
How do you deal with distracting issue? How do you make the most of present moments? I'd love to hear about it in the comments.
