To talk about sustainability and a holistic lifestyle is to acknowledge that there is a movement of people with energetic, rather than physical, connections who have been turning their gaze inward within themselves in search of answers not only to questions that unsettle one's own questioning about the workings of life on our "blue ship" but also about the evolution and well-being of humanity as a species. This is what I believe has come to be called "awakening consciousness," with all that it implies.

Every thought has a form and this form is reflected in us as in the mirror of everything, being integral beings interacting in different dimensions and with different bodies.

Our past explains the present and outlines a future subject to our actions today, which is the only thing we can change. That is to say, we are part of the wheel that moves life, but we are not more than that wheel, because the wheel is the only sure thing in the universe, it is the whole that is always more than the parts.

Valuable question of the week to reflect and give our opinion on the importance of the aspects of sustainability and holistic living. Sustainability and holistic living go hand in hand and allow us to create a sense of responsibility and belonging to the environment where we live. If we pollute our surroundings, we will surely cease to have a quality of life. Environmental conservation is an interesting aspect of sustainability, which I want to develop in this publication in order to answer the question of the week.

Environmental protection is essential in order to avoid anything that could damage the ecosystem. The best way to conserve the environment is to generate a family campaign in which we can take care of the least of the elements that make up our environment. Personally, I instill in my family the great need to plant and sow our own food, with the best intention of giving value to the portions of land in our urban garden. Growing our own food has led us to give importance to environmental conservation. There is waste generated by some foods that can be used as compost for the soil and make plant growth more effective. My house has a 100 square meter garden, which is used to grow various types of food, such as peppers, bananas, yucca, eggplant and medicinal plants.

Who does not want holistic living ?

Season 10 of @ecotrain QOTW has started with a topic that would affect every person in this universe - Sustainability and Holistic Living. Check this post, if you want to participate. There might be some who may not think about sustainability, but can anyone ignore holistic living ? In very simple terms, holistic living is about leading a lifestyle that nourishes our body, mind and soul. Or make it even more simple - stay happy. So how can we stay happy ? Every person may have a different interest that would keep them happy, but I believe, most of us, if not all ( may be there are some people who do not need good food and still can be happy), need good food - the bare essential to stay happy. I mean if you don't love food, then there is probably nothing else that could attract you, right ? So if you don't love food, probably this topic is not for you - you are beyond holistic living :)

You are what you eat - I don't think, with time, we have a lot of die hard fans of this phrase living in this planet trying out to strongly focus on what we eat - even not me. But most of us largely believe this and try to eat healthy foods most of the time, if not always. But is healthy food a reality now ? What would be healthy food in your definition ? In my definition, healthy food is something that does not have any chemical and is purely organic.

Striving to live my best life, to become in tune with my needs and explore the ways in which I can live in harmony with nature. I often get frustrated with the way in which people treat the environment, with little or no respect for nature and in total denial, of how the way they choose to live, has a huge impact on her.

Of course it is minuscule, in comparison to the impact that large corporations and industries have, but every little helps. What matters most, is our mindset. Being aware, that how we think and act, creates the world that we directly engage and live in and that, is very powerful.

A lot of people strive to live more sustainably, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that I do not want to sustain the way in which most of the world lives right now, it is not something I support. I believe we need to find ways in which we can improve our way of life.

Listening to large corporations talk about how they strive to become more sustainable, is ridiculous to me. Because all they are committing to really, is maintaining the level at which they currently operate, so that they can continue to do so for years to come. We need to be pushing for more regenerative businesses, that look at ways in which they can improve the way in which they operate.

I had in mind to present this post days ago but for different reasons I had not sat down to write this reflection. When I read the question that is proposed to us it caught my attention, I think that personally there are aspects of a holistic life and sustainability have a lot of important in my life, I am a person that thanks to my years of reading philosophy I have cultivated a critical and meditative spirit, therefore, before starting this dissertation I wonder:

It is evident the close relationship between holistic living and sustainability, I consider that there is no one without the other, I feel that a holistic life is to be concerned about the individual and if we take this concern towards the macro we come across sustainability. So let's go with the first part of this reflection.

Sustainability Now let's go to the question of sustainability, as I said I do not intend to start from a definition that you can look up on the web in a minute, I intend to start my reflection on what sustainability means to me. It is undeniable that we have reached a point in the history of mankind where sustainability should not be presented to us as a utopian dream, but it is imposed on us as a project from the macro to the micro, speaking in a social environment.

For me sustainability is a possible dream, I really believe, that if the right policies are implemented and the citizenship assumes them with conscience things can change.

If we review the last times, in which the whole humanity lived under the pandemic, we will realize that if it is true that the economy of our countries suffered a lot, we will also see that there were interesting and important changes and one of them is that the planet recovered its ozone layer.

The other important fact is that people reinvented themselves, we looked for new means of production, we began to plant and look for ways to produce locally imported food that no longer reached our countries, and even more the situation has opened our eyes and tells us that the human race has a high level of adaptability.

That is why I believe that we can talk about a sustainable and balanced productive system that overcomes and leaves behind this predatory and destructive economic system in which we live. Understanding that this system is not only negative for the planet, but also for the human beings that live in it.

Holistic Living. Personally, I believe that all aspects of holistic life are important, that is, many times we all focus on articles and comments on how to change and improve the world. However, we can never change the world if we do not change ourselves, and that in all aspects. Recently, a neighbor asked me over and over again why I did not eat meat, I told him all the reasons and none of them were valid for, so I gave him the last one that had to do with more transcendental aspects and after telling him about it he looked at me as if I was an alien. My comment was very simple, and it is the following; "Imagine that animals have souls (I mean, for me they do) and feelings. Now imagine how they feel when you raise them in closed places, without moving to fatten them as in the case of pigs and the only time they go out is to go to a slaughterhouse.

Oh this topic sings to my soul. I have just really just began learning and understanding what it means, for me, to live holistically and be sustainable, and what a journey it has been so far.

I grew up in a suburb and as the years went on it became more and more populated, turning into, what felt like, Queens, NY. I never had a vegetable garden growing up. I wasn't interested in learning how to cook. Breakfast? I would just go up the street to the bagel store and have someone else make me eggs. For years this was how I lived; spending a ton of money on coffee from Dunkin' or Starbucks meanwhile there was coffee at my house.

For most of my teen into early adult years I just "lived" or so I told myself that's what I was doing. When in reality I was doing more harm then good. I always had this empty void, a dark spot where no light could get through. I was always searching for the "next best thing" to fill it. It wasn't until I got the opportunity to pick up and move three hours away with my sister until my life really began.

I met my husband, had a baby, and moved up into the mountains all within three years; it was a quick one, but this time something was different, a push inside of me that I never experienced before.

Holistic is a term used to describe philosophical ideas that assert that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Not all can be grasped solely by analyzing component pieces, according to this method. All of the pieces that we can hear and see that make up the truth form a unified whole. The holistic approach is still valid in the medical profession from this perspective.

The premise of holistic health is that man is a multi-dimensional creature made up of body, mind, and spirit, and that he cannot be reduced to particular organs and systems, and that he is more than the sum of his parts. The handling of the biomedical model, which separates the physical body in itself, as well as the mental and the physical body, by taking the human's full existence and not separating it from his personality, is the integrity in these aspects.

​The holistic health system's approach to disease treatment is to understand the mechanisms that cause people to become ill. He contends that disease causes, rather than disease progression, should be addressed. It's crucial to consider not just the components that make up an individual, but the entire of those parts and their mutual interactions, or the whole.

I’ve always considered myself an ecologically minded person interested in sustainability. And as a personal trainer whose education includes yoga, tai chi, and other holistic fitness focused continuing education, I’ve often explored what a holistic approach to health and living involves.Over time, my definitions of sustainability and holistic living have evolved. They continue to do so. Global, local, and personal events over the past 2-3 years have prompted a much more rapid evolution of my understanding of each. Here’s how I currently view sustainable and holistic living, and what I think is important to focus on.

The very word “sustainability” implies something that is persistent and long lasting. More than that it suggests active and dynamic systems continuing their processes while being persistent over time. When I think of sustainable living, I think of the actions one needs to take to provide for all levels on Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs model. Food, Shelter, Safety, Self-Actualization, etc… What kind of a lifestyle needs to be created that can provide all of this in a persistent manner? For a lifestyle to be sustainable, it must be able to persist without the need of input from capital or non-local resources. This approach is intimately tied to a holistic approach, which we’ll get into shortly.

My first continuing education that I completed almost 15 years ago as a personal trainer was for a Holistic Fitness Certification. At the time holistic fitness was broadly considered to be tai chi, yoga, and pilates. A holistic approach to nutrition was generally considered to be vegan. I’ve given a LOT of thought to the definition of “holistic” and “holism” over the years, particularly as it relates to health. Most of our working definitions are shallow, and are fairly reductive, which I find ironic. For example, it’s possible to have an established yoga practice and eat a strict vegetarian diet and to NOT have a holistic fitness practice. Conversely, it’s possible to follow a bodybuilding program and eat meat and do so in a holistic way. Context matters.

In the time of our most distant ancestors there was a great respect for nature. It was natural to think that humans, the environment that surrounded them, and all the beings of creation formed an indivisible unit, that they all had to do with each other. They felt that they were part of something much bigger than each of them.

And although for them perhaps there was no concept of relationship, they somehow sensed that their actions had to respect the world around them, their way of life tended to balance.

All these beings, which many of us might arrogantly consider to have a knowledge far inferior to ours, were clearly aware that if human beings damaged the environment they were damaging their own home.

It would not be an exaggeration to affirm then that in them lived that idea that in our days we call holistic, that is, that we are all linked in a process of permanent interactions. Therefore, what each one does or fails to do directly affects the system, which in our case would be life on Earth.

However, as time went by, something changed in the human mind so that this ancestral respect for the environment that sustains us was lost. Suddenly men stopped seeing unity and began to look at nature as a great source of resources whose only purpose was to generate some kind of wealth. With this limited mentality of lost unity we have reached our days, a time where the damage caused to the planet is so great that it threatens the very life of our species.

Sustainability and holistic. Thank you @ecotrain for bringing us this topic with which we will have the opportunity to share in this new week. I have heard the terms in question and I have also applied it but never to my spiritual life, to tell the truth, I had never stopped to perform an exercise like this where both terms are included. I find interesting the examples given in this main publication since it can be effective to apply it to my own life. When I have talked about sustainability I have linked it to my skill or ability to achieve above all economic prosperity. As mentioned in the main post, we visualize sustainability sustained in time as something that gives me stability, wellbeing and security. When in Venezuela we were able to save money, we thought of investing in a project in order to sustain the initial base.

Now, the approach in this publication invites me to a spiritual exercise. In this case, what I would like to sustain, at this stage of my life, is my happiness. Happiness is a state, an attitude of each person. To be happy is a decision that is often difficult to make because we continually self-sabotage ourselves, we wear ourselves out waiting for others to be happy, denying ourselves the possibility of being happy before others. To manage happiness costs a lot, it is more complicated than it is said.

Being a full-time mom is kind of tough and sometimes it drains us physically and mentally. Just like a few minutes earlier, I greeted one of my friends here ( @eylyz619 ) "Happy Monday" which is a day late lol. It's now Tuesday here in the Philippines (past lunch time) and I just got back home from picking my daughter's modules at her school. Now I am taking a little break before getting back to my mom/house duties. As I was scrolling some communities, I stumbled here (which I am subscribed long time). Reading some blogs and stuff and got me interested. So today, I am joining @ecotrain 's question of the week.

Holistic life arises when we care about the humankind and everything around it. There is a lot of stuff that needs to be done on this planet. Sometimes, it gets so overwhelming and empowering. We can all start from home. We can start in our little corners. The world is so huge filled with great people around it. Our actions can affect others. Let's stand up for them and don't sweat the tiny little stuff. Sometimes it's funny, but let's try really hard to not be an ass (sorry for the word). Let's keep our hearts and eyes open for little ways on how we can make other people's life easier. Or at least not make it any harder in any sense. I am also a firm believer that every little thing we can do will ripple out into the world. You reap what you sow.

Two relative concepts that everyone judges according to their experience, conscience and largely due to the influence of the media and/or advertising. In my opinion, a balanced position without extremism seems to me the most sensible, and I do not fully understand the concept of living outside the network. If they share their experiences of natural, sustainable life with diverse styles and different from the traditional ones, it is evident that they continue to be connected to the Internet, the largest communication network.

When I moved to my own house, still unfinished, but without the weight of a mortgage, I decided to leave my job and venture into craft activities, which without significant capital did not always turn out to the extent of my wishes, so on occasions I resorted to to temporary jobs for a salary, but I have always preferred to adapt to the income and resources generated by the activities carried out at home by the family group, without disregarding the contributions of the members who have carried out jobs apart and added to the community.

This identity starts with the body, then many more things are added to it later on. I am pretty much elated to see the question of week talking about sustainability and holistic living which are broad concepts in the global public discuss. It is much more important for us to discuss this in all fora and forum as these concepts are very much woven into the fabric of human existence and continuity of the human race. Looking at the global happenings, with countries maxing up their nuclear power, the war in ukraine, famine, Covid, insurgency, green house effects, globalization, deforestation etc going about all over the world has made it much more sacrosanct for we to understand sustainability and holisitic living as concepts that promote continuous existence of our race.

Holisitic living as a term largely has to do with individual lifestyles. It is broadly defined as the living or imbibing a lifestyle culture that nourishes your body, mind, soul and spirit. It is a paradigm shift in focus of not just surviving but focusing on living the best possible lifestyle in good health and sound mind. This can be likened to yoga where there is balance of man and nature and a focus on positive energy. It is balancing the yin and yang existent in the concept of life itself.
