Some people fear water because they do not know how to swim. The situation deprives them of the enjoyment and excitement they may feel while swimming or diving, though it is understandable that not everyone can do what others can.
Back to my story, I am once frightened when going out for a swim unattended. Families love having reunions, like going to beaches or renting a pool resort. Either way, I did not feel the excitement of joining them. The reason behind that was that I thought I might get drowned and die.
But years passed, and I slowly noticed that I was not happy with staying at the corner of every swimming pool anymore, while others enjoyed going around a pool. So I asked my friend to instruct me on the positions I should do when swimming. He then started teaching me a few tricks and tips to avoid drowning. And after a few trials and errors, I learned how to swim.
Recently, my partner’s relatives invited us over for their family reunion and birthday celebration held in a resort park. It has swimming pools for kids and adults. After eating our lunch, I asked my partner to accompany me and hit off one of the deepest pools in that resort. I chose the one 8 feet deep. If you are curious, I am only 4’11.
To some swimmers, 8 feet is an easy peasy, but not for me. When we got there, I felt the adrenaline and excitement in getting into the water – which I could not do before because of fear. I jumped into the pool and enjoyed going deeper and swimming around without minding the depth of it. And just like that, I knew I had achieved something for myself. I was doing the thing that I used to be scared of, and it meant a lot.
I did the “floating” position my friend had taught me before, and I didn’t know my partner was taking pictures of me. He knew the story behind facing my fear of drowning. After an hour of swimming around the pool and talking, he showed me the photos he had captured while I was enjoying my moment.
Also, another thing I loved during that moment was that we were the only people in that resort area. We enjoyed our time there and were on the front seat to a scenic view of nature. I will share more about my adventures soon.
I will make another blog regarding the resort we hopped into, plus the experience we had there as a whole. Keep in touch!
