Monster Focus

In this edition of the Social Media Challenge, I want to shine a spotlight on a frequently overlooked monster hailing from the Death Splinter and a member of the Chaos Legion collection: the RIFTWING
👀
While the RIFTWING
may not be armed with any offensive prowess, it possesses a repertoire of abilities that carry significant utility in battles. When strategically leveraged, these abilities have the potential to tip the scales in your favor. As is often the case, the RIFTWING
unlocks even more abilities as it levels up, allowing us to fully realize its potential over time 😜
unlock its full range of abilities that I will discuss in the below section!

The Battle
In my alt account, jimbei, I was able engage in a battle that showcased the impressive capabilities of using the RIFTWING
. To get right into the action, the battle link can be found here. Otherwise, do read on as I go into more detail regarding the lineup and fight.

Now, let's dive into the rulesets that define this battle. It's an exceptionally uncomplicated contest, characterized by just two rulesets: the Healed Out and Close Range rulesets. The Healed Out ruleset removes of all healing abilities from Monsters and Summoners, while the Close Range ruleset permits the utilization of Ranged attacks in the first position during battles. This battle adheres to a mana limit of 20 and only allow the use of the Death Splinter.

Summoner, Astral Entity
Considering the ruleset in effect, which confines us to using the Death Splinter, my choice of Summoner boiled down to either Thaddius Brood or Astral Entity. Initially, I contemplated selecting Thaddius Brood for its valuable -1 Magic debuff. However, given the presence of the Close Range ruleset, where Ranged monsters could potentially wield considerable influence in the battle, I ultimately opted for Astral Entity. Astral Entity boasts advantageous attributes, including the capability to inflict a -2 Armor debuff on the enemy's lineup, bestow my team with the Dodge ability, and even perform a Resurrection on a friendly monster once during the battle! 😏

First Position, Chaos Agent
Chaos Agent secured its position in my lineup primarily due to the limited mana resources at my disposal during the lineup selection process. My choice to incorporate Chaos Agent in my team stemmed from its valuable defensive abilities, which could potentially offer significant advantages during the battle. The Phase and Dodge abilities can adeptly evade incoming enemy attacks when positioned in the first slot. Furthermore, the Backfire ability could counterattack and inflict damage whenever the enemy fail to hit the target 😁

Second Position, Carrion Shade
Carrion Shade is another monster that found its place in my lineup primarily due to the constraints of my available mana resources. In fact, it was chosen when I had just a single remaining mana and one more slot to fill in my lineup. Placing it in the second position, right behind Chaos Agent, I aimed for a strategic synergy where enemies, missing their intended target, would suffer damage from Chaos Agent's Backfire ability, and Carrion Shade would step in to finish the job should Chaos Agent fall during the battle. Wishful thinking 😅

Third Position, Riftwing
The central character of today's post: RIFTWING
. Its placement in the third position allows it to bolster its Health stats thanks to the Scavenger ability, which awards 1 Health with every fallen unit in the battle, regardless of whether it's a friend or foe. Consequently, when it's eventually positioned in the first slot, it should possess a substantial reservoir of Health, rendering it a reliable tanking unit. Furthermore, the combination of RIFTWING
Flying and Backfire abilities, in conjunction with the Dodge ability granted by Astral Entity, endows it with an enhanced chance to evade the enemies' Melee and Ranged attacks ✌️

Fourth Position, Weirding Warrior
Fifth Position, Soul Strangler
Selected the Weirding Warrior and Soul Strangler as my two primary attackers in the lineup. These two monsters emerged as the top choices for maximizing damage output considering their respective mana costs. While the abilities of the Weirding Warrior may not be as impactful in this specific match, given my deployment of Astral Entity as my Summoner, the Poison ability from the Soul Strangler is indeed a welcomed addition. Furthermore, it's worth noting that this battle adheres to the Close Range ruleset, ensuring that both monsters retain their ability to attack even when moving up to the first position 👍

Last Position, Venari Marksrat
I strategically positioned the Venari Marksrat as a fodder unit in the last position to serve as a shield for the primary attackers, safeguarding them from potential Sneak attacks. This placement was chosen because the Venari Marksrat possesses the Martyr ability. My tactical approach involves allowing the Sneak attacker to eliminate this monster early in the battle, triggering the Resurrect ability from Astral Entity. It is designed to capitalize on a potential double Martyr boost on Soul Strangler if the circumstances permit! 😆
The Analysis

To be completely honest, among all the Splinterlands' posts that I've created up to this point, this one presented the greatest challenge in terms of content creation. The reason behind this struggle lies in the fact that I lacked a concrete strategy for this particular battle, making it difficult to narrate or explain the reasoning behind my chosen lineup. This was largely because, in the final 10 seconds of the preparation stage, I hastily assembled a team due to being preoccupied with other matters 😵

You might wonder why I still decided to feature this specific battle and create a post about it. Well, the primary motivation was to showcase RIFTWING
in the context of this intriguing battle, which I wanted to share with all of you. I won't delve into extensive details here, as I believe that watching the battle itself is the best way to truly experience the emotions I felt. I shall only tease you with a screenshot above that was taken from Round 3! 👻
