Among the first ideas that spring to mind when considering contemporary US coinage are all of these ideas. Few people equate money with art, which makes sense considering that, up until about 1999, the majority of the coins that Americans were used to using on a daily basis had essentially had the same design for at least 40 or 50 years.
As part of the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP), a group of artists work to ensure our country's coins and medals illustrate the essence and story of America.
This is the half dollar coin in the Greatest Generation Commemorative Coin Program.
The coins in this program honor American soldiers and civilians who served in the military as well as the National World War II Memorial and their sacrifices.

Greatest Generation 2024 Proof Half Dollar
The obverse was designed by Elana Hagler, and the medallic artist was Craig A. Campbell.
Elana Haglar is credit to have designed the obverse of this hald dollar coin and also the obverse of the 2023 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin and Silver Medal.

Obverse: The design re-imagines the Victory Medal that was awarded to all who served in the Armed Forces during World War II. The figure of Liberation stands with open arms holding two halves of a broken sword, symbolizing the war’s conclusion. The inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “WORLD WAR II” “2024,” and “WE ANSWERED THE CALL.”
The reverse was designed by Matt Swaim, the medallic artist was John P. McGraw.

Reverse: This design depicts the World War II Memorial from the point of view of a person walking up a ramp leading to one of the towers. The inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “HALF DOLLAR.”

The non-profit Friends of the National World War II Memorial may receive surcharges of $5 for each half dollar sold. These surcharges will help fund the Memorial's upkeep and repairs by the National Park Service, as well as its commemorative and educational initiatives.
