One of the most exciting parts of having a day off at work, aside from the fact that I will take some good rest, is the idea of going home to my hometown — Zambales. The thought of fresh air, mountains, and picnic sites always make me feel the excitement of going home.
My rest days at work are Saturday and Sunday, and my shift ends around 2:00 in a Friday afternoon. It's the perfect timing to grab my things and go home to the province over a two-hour travel. Last November 10, I planned on going home to spend my day off with my family.
When I got off the site, I already went to the bus terminal. It took me almost 3 hours of travel time before I saw my dropping point. Since I am tired with the travel journey, I took the rest hours of the day laying on my bed and playing with my niece and nephews.
And the next day, it's finally time to enjoy my weekend. We planned a quick lunch at the river near us, which also became a popular picnic site. After cooking the foods, we already went straight headed to the spot.
The kids were really excited, since it means having a good time swimming with their siblings and friends. When we are on our way, we saw that there are a lot of people again, and it's because it's weekend.

Since it's a picnic, we did not bring any utensils like plate, spoon, or fork. We planned to eat using our hands, and having a feast together in a banana leaf. So when we already found a spot in the middle of the pine trees, the next task that we need to do is to get a banana leaf. My partner and I insisted to get one.
We saw banana trees from a nearby, but we had to go through the flowing river first. My partner has the knife with him, while I am just right there taking pictures. I made sure that he would walk first so I could take candid pictures of him.
Finally, we were able to cross the river. For the banana leaf!
When we already got near the bananas, we had to choose which of them should we get and we considered a few things. First, we are onl 3 adults and 3 kids. We won't need a big one.

My partner started checking out the leaves available, and when I heard him say that he would start cutting, I already knew that he finally saw the right size and quality of leaf we needed for the boodle fight. After a few efforts in cutting, we finally got it.
We went back to our spot, and it's the time when I appreciated our place once again. We are in a table made of bamboos placed in the middle of the pine trees. It was an amazing spot perfect for picnics.
Before taking a dip in the river, we decided to eat our lunch first. We placed the rice and the grilled pork and fried fish that we cooked in the banana leaf. Also, we prepared some vegetables too. When everything was already set, we washed our hands and started the boodle fight.
After eating, we only waited for a few minutes before we jumped off the water. It's really hot, but I think this picnic site would probably beat it. It's a great place for people who loves outdoor picnic, and getting closer to nature.
