So, last Saturday we had our hangout as usual, and it was just so much fun that we did not want it to end. We are currently on the first topic for this week, which is “A FAMILY THAT EATS TOGETHER”.
But before we proceed with the details of the topic, let us take a look at the winners of the last topic, which was “GAP YEAR”.
This topic was geared toward each member of the community, telling us about their thoughts on taking gap years between academic and professional milestones. This can be a good time to take a step back and strategize so that the individual can bounce back with more gusto and resolve.
However, we got to see the bad side of gap years, because despite its benefits, it can be hard for many people to find their way back once it’s taken. It can also be easy for such endeavors to become excuses for procrastination and laziness. So, for some, it just might be best not to start at all.
For this topic, we went through every entry post, and that is every post with the #hl-exclusive & #hl-w176e3 tag. And with the number of wonderful posts out there, it was quite difficult to make a selection. But eventually, we did just that. This author told us that taking a gap year affected him in the worst way, in a way that hurt him for a long time. He took a gap year after his secondary school, thinking he’d be able to bounce back when he was ready to go back. He was wrong, and it took him years before he was able to make his way back to school. So, he sees gap years as a bad idea.

For this author, he said that it can be difficult to have a clear answer for a topic such as this. Some things are like vehicles, and they move with momentum; stopping halfway would mean that getting back to it would require another build-up of momentum again. He sees a one-year gap as procrastination, and anything that needs to be done during that period can be done alongside whatever it is that the gap year is needed to be taken from.

For this author, he believes that everyone deserves a sabbatical. Doing the same thing over and over for an extended period of time can get very boring; taking a gap year might be the breath of fresh air that the person needs to clear the mind. With the right mindset and dedication, anyone can have a good gap year, and it won’t be just an excuse for procrastination.
