Seeing through the illusions of our senses

I would like to talk today about the concept of "appearance", and by extension, also talk about the concept of "illusion". Because I think people are often confused about what these things mean, especially when it comes to metaphysics. I have heard people say, for example, that since the physical world is illusory or apparent — because those are the usual adjectives used — then the physical world is somehow less real, or practically non-existent. I don't think so. I think this conception is the product of a misinterpretation.

Many people are moving through the world, thinking about their performance review, their grades, their taxes, trying not to crash in traffic, worrying about the future or feeling shameful about their past.
Maybe you are not doing that. Maybe you are focused on the moment with relaxed attention, gently allowing whatever is in your awareness to simply exist. When a disturbance arises, you might feel it, perhaps feeling annoyed for a second, or allowing the interruption to simply pass right through you.

This is going to be the first ever 100% produced @ELAmental truth-hop track! After 3 strait days of hard work, education, and practice, I can finally say I have completely drafted my first instrumental - 100% ownership!! Previously I would purchase beats from other producers (or they would sometimes just gift them to me) and lay lyrics on them, now I make the beats AND the vocals!
The Wonderful Food, That's Growing In My Garden!

I like my gardens wild, letting my food grow alongside my medicinal herbs. Herbs that I have left to grow naturally. I love this time of the year, as the clevers and chickweed are in abundance, along with lots of Borage. Borage is a plant which we all need to be consuming right now, as it helps to bring us courage and strength. If you look close enough at that picture above, you will see some chickweed and clevers growing happily amongst the borage.

Outside my bedroom, to the right of our humble house, is an ornamental apple tree that marks the seasons. It is the first to offer buds and burst into pale white flowers, and the first to show signs of autumnal blush in copppers, reds and golds, carpeting the path with it's resplendance. It's a very still time of year - the summer winds have calmed and the winter ones have yet to gather. The mornings are bright and cold, and the day ripens into blue skies and sunshine, a kind of late summer where you are painfully aware that the firewood needs to come in.

Something I never realised until we came to Australia was that chilli plants can be perennial as long as winter doesn't get too cold for them. The ideal climate is tropical or subtropical, which is unfortunately not the South Australian climate. Here it's arid and in some areas it will drop to light freezing in winter. However, in the region I'm in frosts are rare and brief if we see them, so I've been trying to see if we can get our chilli and capsicum plants to survive the winters.

I've had a busy few days on the land so far, with everything taking me twice as long I'd expected, ironically as I'd totally expected!
It's been a beautiful week this week - I even got slightly sunburnt on my arms today - up to 18 degrees every day in the afternoon - real T shirt and hat and plenty of water weather!
I've had to really focus on 'the basics' at first - getting the land Fire safe, which means spending most of my time clearing shrub, which will otherwise turn into death-kindling by July, of which there is a lot.

Sugar is absurdly cheap. Stupidly so, given the phenomenal environmental damage commercial sugar production causes. In the last years, sugar production in Thailand has more than doubled so that the more developed world can have more of this:

Geert Vanden Bossche, one of the world's top vaccine researchers, has put out an open letter warning the world of the potentially terrible outcomes of our current useage of the Covid-19 Vaccine. Despite being very pro-vaccine in general, he has chosen to risk his distinguished career in the vaccine industry to warn the world that we may be creating something far worse than what we saw in 2020 through the use of the new vaccine.
Forest life: Let the light in and contemplate

One of the "issues" of living in the forest is the lack of sunlight that can be experienced on certain hours of the day. When too much time is spent in absence of sunlight it's easy to feel tired and gloomy, which is ok but only for a certain amount of time.
I live next to a rural road so it was always a question on my mind whether to clear up some of the branches of the trees to let more light in or keep them there to avoid being exposed to all the cars that pass by.

We are all eternal students
I have always been an autodidact. When I was a child I mostly depended on the information that I received from my family and in school, but as I grew, my love for knowledge started setting the pace with which I wanted to advance and in what area. My experience with the regular curriculum of education was fairly unpleasant and therefore, I never finished my formal studies. This was presented to me as a failure for many years and caused me enormous anxieties, but eventually I let it go, because I realized that I frequently handled information that was much more versatile and precise that many people with university degrees and even doctorates under their belts.

Greetings amazing humans. This post is a little anecdote from my family's offgrid adventures. I decided to incorporate it with my thoughts on the importance of human connection as a natural medicine.
In August 2018 my family moved to the northeast of Spain to live offgrid.
After 1 month, we were hanging out at the neighbor's land enjoying some al fresco movie time, and what better way to kick it off with a lovely movie for the children and end it with the movie that inspired me to want to move offgrid; Captain Fantastic.

This is a 100% no bullshit post. It contains strong language, very opinionated ideas and quite damning judgements against many if not most people who live on this earth.. From time to time it feels like i might explode unless i can share these feelings, the wisdom and insights that i have gained from 47 years on this earth and many many lifetimes before that. Our entire planet stands on the precipice of either a bright and wonderful future for us and our children, and all the animals and plants that also live on this earth with us..

If you remember, last year around this time (almost) all of my posts were about the construction project I was involved in: Building a round structure with a tire wall and a reciprocal roof. Thanks to the Covid lockdown we were forced to stay here a few weeks longer than anticipated, but once the roof beams were up and the travel restrictions eased, all of us went back to their respective homes, to come back and finish the roof.
Finally the time has come, and we're back together in Mazunte, with an exciting challenge: covering the beams and turning it into a green roof. And just as before, I am excited to share the process on Hive.
