Jan Hus Trail / Jakobsweg - From Unterteuringen (GER) to Hugelshofe...

Welcome, today the time has come when we will finally look at the end of the journey set in the footsteps of Jan Hus from Prague in the Czech Republic to Constance in Germany on the border with Switzerland. A bunch of photos of everything I encountered on the way to Bodensee awaits you.

Vítejte, dnes nastal čas kdy se konečně podíváme na konec mojí stanovené cesty ve stopách Jana Husa z Prahy v České republice do Německé Kostnice na hranicích se Švýcarskem. Čeká Vás hromada fotografií všeho možného co jsem cestou k Bodensee potkal.

In the morning I awoke to a dark landscape well before sunrise. I packed the wet gear, which was suffocating from the fumes from the wet environment. And I set off to a country full of apple orchards.

Ráno jsem se probudil do temné krajiny hodně před východem slunce. Zabalil mokré vybavení, které navlhlo od výparů z mokrého okolí. A vyrazil do krajiny plné jablečných sadů.

On the way, I met several villages and farms again, so it was time for a few details.

Cestou jsem potkal opět několik vesnic a statků, takže byl čas opět na pár detailů.

I reached the town of Markdorf relatively early, so all the streets in the center of the town were empty. I went to the local Norma store for breakfast and continued on to the orchards.

Relativně brzy jsem došel do městečka Markdorf, tak všechny ulice v centru městečka byly prázdné. Došel jsem si pro snídani do místního obchodu Norma a pokračoval dále do sadů.

The apple orchards slowly began to change in the vineyard and I knew that the destination was not too far away. I looked at the shelter that was marked on the map. Which was actually a wine barrel.

Jablečné sady se pomalu začali měnit ve vinice a to jsem věděl, že cíl není příliš daleko. Podíval jsem se také na přístřešek co byl značen v mapě. Což byl ve skutečnosti sud od vína.

But I was already very close to the town of Meersburg. I didn't know what to expect because I did absolutely no research beforehand. As was the case with this entire journey.

Ale to už jsem byl velmi blízko městečka Meersburg. Nevěděl jsem co čekat, protože jsem nedělal absolutně žádný průzkum předem. Jako tomu bylo s celou touto cestou.

Meersburg is a wonderful medieval town with narrow streets and a large number of tourists. In the middle of the town stands a castle from which you can head to the lake shore.

Meersburg je nádherné středověké městečko s úzkými uličkami a velkým množstvím turistů. Uprostřed města stojí hrad od kterého je možné zamířit na pobřeží jezera.

On the way, I stopped at the gate with the clock and continued a few tens of meters to the embankment.

Cestou jsem se ještě zastavil u brány s hodinami a pokračoval pár desítek metrů k nábřeží.

The lake view was extremely busy so I headed to the ferry dock as fast as I could.

Na vyhlídce na jezero bylo extrémně rušno a tak jsem co nejrychleji zamířil k přístavišti trajektů.

In the middle of summer, the ferry runs every 15 minutes, so I didn't have to wait long and was able to board right away.

Uprostřed léta jezdí trajekt každých 15 minut, takže jsem nemusel dlouho čekat a mohl jsem se ihned nalodit.

For 3.90 Euros, this trip across the lake was definitely worth it. The weather was perfect. And everyone on board enjoyed it. In about 10 minutes I was on the other side of the lake in the town of Staad.

Za 3.90 Eura tento výlet přes jezero rozhodně stál. Počasí bylo ideální. A každý na palubě si to užíval. Za cca 10 minut jsem byl na druhé straně jezera v městečku Staad.

Here I took the coastal road leading to Constance. Already in Meersburg, I thought about taking a bath in the lake, because the color of the water was directly tempting for a bath. But only on the other side were places where you could safely bathe. The water was incredibly warm and clean.

Zde jsem se vydal po pobřežní cestě vedoucí do Kostnice. Už v Meersburgu jsem uvažoval o koupeli v jezeře, protože barva vody ke koupeli přímo sváděla. Ale teprve na druhé straně byly místa kde se dalo bezpečně vykoupat. Voda byla neskutečně teplá a čistá.

On my way along the water, I refilled the water from the tap right next to the drinking water purifier for Constance. Here again I had a little conversation about water and my camera mount on my backpack. After that I reached a point along the coast from where I had to head west again.

Cestou podél vody jsem doplnil vodu z kohoutku přímo vedle čističky na pitnou vodu pro Kostnici. Zde jsem měl opět malou konverzaci na téma voda a můj držák na foťák na batohu. Poté jsem se po pobřeží dostal k bodu odkud jsem musel opět směřovat na západ.

Through Petershausen-ost, where there were an incredible number of large villas, I slowly approached the center of Constance.

Přes Petershausen-ost kde bylo neuvěřitelné množství velkých vil, jsem se pomalu blížil k centru Kostnice.

Well, then all that was left was to cross the bridge, which is shared by people, cyclists, cars and trains.

No a pak už zbývalo jen přejít most, který je sdílený pro lidi, cyklisty, auta a vlaky.

And then you enter a place where everything screams the Middle Ages at you.

A pak vstoupíte do místa kde na Vás všechno křičí Středověk.

Only now, when I look at the photos, I realized one important thing. What would Prague look like if there were no cars in the city center? I think quite similar to the center of Constance.

Teprve teď když koukám na fotky mi došla jedna podstatná več. Jak by asi vypadala Praha, kdyby zde nebyly v centru města auta. Myslím si, že dost podobně jako centrum Kostnice.

The central cathedral is impressive, especially the entrance to the building. There is a small square behind the cathedral, where I headed because the stage of the Way of St. James from Nuremberg ended here. One task accomplished.

Centrální katedrále je impozantní, hlavně vchod do budovy. Za katedrálou je malé náměstí, kam jsem zamířil, protože zde končila etapa Svatojakubské cesty z Norimberka. Jeden úkol splněn.

I went on to complete quest number 2. Which was actually the main one at the beginning. Walk to the house of Jan Hus, where he stayed before he was declared a heretic and subsequently burned.

Pokračoval jsem za splněním úkolu číslo 2. Což byl vlastně ten hlavní na začátku. Dojít k domu Jana Husa, kde pobýval než byl prohlášen za kacíře a následně upálen.

But it was not easy to make my way to the house, because Constance is an incredibly interesting city and I was quite often pulled into some side street because I noticed something. Hus Haus is a tiny house on the edge of the old town. And since I had a big backpack and a Czech-speaking family was standing in the way. I didn't go to the house and I'm saving it for another visit. Because this city deserves a longer stay than just a few hours.

Ale nebylo jednoduché se k domu probít, protože Kostnice je neuvěřitelně zajímavé město a já byl dost často zatažen do nějaké boční ulice, protože jsem si něčeho všiml. Hus Haus je malinkatý domeček na okraji starého města. A jelikož jsem měl velký batoh a ve dveřích překážela česky mluvící rodina. Do domu jsem nešel a nechávám si to na nějakou další návštěvu. Protože toto město si zasloužení delší pobyt než jen pár hodin.

The main task was accomplished. I walked from Bethlehem Square in Prague to the house of Jan Hus in Constance. But I booked 30 days for this trip. And today's article is day number 21. I decided to continue along the Way of St. James towards Switzerland. Because @godfish told me in one of the comments that the St James's Trail is worth walking. I have to agree with him that it is so, because one learns a lot of information about the history of Europe. Here came task number three and that was to get new shoes as the current ones had more than 1500km of trips behind them.

Hlavní úkol byl splněn. Došel jsem z Betlémského náměstí v Praze k domu Jana Husa v Kostnici. Jenomže jsem si pro tento výlet rezervoval 30 dní. A dnešní článek je den číslo 21. Rozhodl jsem se pokračovat po Svatojakubské stezce směrem do Švýcarska. Protože mi v jednom z komentářů @godfish řekl, že Svatojakubská stezka stojí za projití. Musím mu dát za pravdu, že je tomu tak, protože se do člověk dozví spoustu informací z historie Evropy. Zde se objevil úkol číslo tři a to bylo pořídit nové boty, protože ty současné měli za sebou více než 1500 km výletů.

After stocking up on new shoes at a local outlet shop, I headed for the border and before long I was in the town of Kreuzlingen. It was time to get used to the new trail markings. Even that the alternative route for the damaged trail is marked. And what I didn't have to get used to for a long time is that drinking water is available from drinking fountains almost everywhere.

Po opatření nové obuvi v místním outlet shopu jsem zamířil k hranici a za nedlouho jsem byl ve městě Kreuzlingen. Byl čas si zvykat na nové značení tras. Dokonce, že náhradní cesta za poškozenou stezku je označena. A na co jsem si nemusel zvykat dlouho, že je zde pitná voda skoro všude k dispozici z pítek.

The only thing that made me a little nervous. There were cumulating clouds.

Jediné co mě trochu znervózňovalo. Byly kumulující se mraky.

It didn't take long, about an hour, and I was stopped by a storm. Fortunately, I was at the edge of the forest where there were a large number of conifers and large oaks. So I didn't even get very wet. And I ended the journey at a resting place on the edge of the Chemibach stream.

Netrvalo dlouho, asi tak hodinu a byl jsem zastaven bouřkou. Naštěstí jsem byl na okraji lesa kde bylo velké množství jehličnanů a velkých dubů. Takže jsem ani moc nezmokl. A cestu jsem zakončil v místě určeném k odpočinku na okraji potoka Chemibach.
