Have you ever been in a province? Whether you're having your travel journey, visiting an old house, or checking out relatives living from the countryside.
People like us who are currently residing behind the mountain ranges and the fields have seen scenarios like these. Some visits our community for adventure, and some are here because of their deceased relatives. But no matter what the reason is, I am sure that they spend time in viewing the backyards of people living here.
I have been living my entire life here in the province of Zambales, in the Northern part of Central Luzon, within the walls made by mountain ranges and Western shores of Luzon Island. And I can say that I saw and experienced every plot twist of having a life right here.
The norms, beliefs, and every detail of different ways of living - Sure! I have experienced them all and I love the perks of being called "probinsiyana". And this time, let me share with you a glimpse of the usual scene of the backyards from someone living in the countryside / province.
A good morning in the province do not end with a cup of coffee and a portion of breakfast. Some starts to water their plants, flowers, and even clean their backyards. It's like a routine for them, and I think I am not an exemption. After having my cup of coffee, I start to think of a better way to spend the day. The aroma of the coffee and the tasty bread I am eating makes me think of productivity.
After cleaning the plate and cup I used for breakfast, I am now headed to getting my phone camera. But I want to level up my captures for this moment, so I grabbed my lens, and set it up on my iPhone 6s. Now, I am going to walk around the house and our backyard.
Oh, there's an old mirror right here!
We used to have this years ago, but we felt like we had to let it go already. I can see my reflection, my morning bare-face. Since I am holding the lens, let me take some shots of myself first.
Now, let's go back to walking around. I heard some noises coming from above, and I looked at the roof as per my curiosity. I see nothing, but I can still hear some tapping. I moved around and look for the right angle to check the creatures that are saying hello.
Here's a pair of Pigeons. Those are being taken care by my older brother. He has a lot of Pigeons, and I think these two wanted to fly around.
But aside from Pigeons, we also have some native chickens. I did not remember this out of nowhere, but someone wanted to say hi to me, too. It showed up in front of me, and I think this little pumpkin knew I was taking pictures. Kidding aside, we really have a lot of native chickens as my father love them.
Of course, this is not all about the kinds of birds we have here. Like what I have said above, people from the province are hooked into planting. Let me show you what my grandmother and father planted in our backyard during their leisure hours. It took weeks before they were ready for harvest, but I can say they are worth the wait.
Something fell in my head, but it did not hurt that much. Look up with me, and see that there’s a Tamarind tree right here. It’s the time of the year where it produces a lot of its fruit, to the point they are falling to the ground. And no, it’s not as sweet like the other tamarind variants you know. This one that we have in our backyard tastes sour.
Turning away from the tamarind tree is an abundant plant you can around our community; the Papaya Tree. Most of the backyards here have this planted beside their houses, and I think it's a normal tree from the provinces here in the Philippines. It's the perfect ingredient for Tinolang Manok.
CONCLUSION:
Living in the province may look ordinary and simple, but it's a positive thing to each of us. The simplicity of life we are living means we are also contented with what we have. The sound of the birds, the flowing water from the river, and the vegetables we can plant around our house made it more beautiful. I will always be grateful of being born and raised here.
Maybe you already saw the scene of the typical backyard of someone from the province, but I am still happy that I had the chance to show everyone around on this life blog I wrote. I hope you enjoyed it!
