In the last section of the Magazine we mentioned how we can organize ourselves to compose our songs. Sometimes it is difficult to start when we do not have a clear idea, and even more, when we sit down with the instrument without having anything written or visualized of what we want to do and have our song. We know that the composition begins with an idea, if we write it down, even the smallest thing, and we develop it around it, we will begin very well, without complications. It is important not to think, just empty the mind, the best songs usually start from chance. The idea can start from anything, a melody, a rhythm, a poem, anything works as long as it gets you writing.

En la sección pasada del Magazine mencionábamos la manera de como podemos organizarnos para componer nuestras canciones. En ocasiones es complejo empezar cuando no tenemos clara la idea, y más aún, cuando nos sentamos con el instrumento sin tener nada escrito ni visualizado de lo que queremos llegar a hacer y tener de nuestra canción. Sabemos que la composición comienza con una idea, si la escribimos, así sea lo más mínimo, y la desarrollamos en torno a ella, comenzaremos muy bien, sin complicaciones. Es importante no pensar, solo vaciar la mente, sin más, las mejores canciones por lo regular empiezan desde el azar. La idea puede iniciar a partir de cuál cosa, una melodía, un ritmo, un poema, cualquier cosa funciona siempre y cuando te ponga a escribir.

We emphasize this part of the composition, since having a defined idea of what you want to achieve, and what the composition asks of you, the theme begins to build itself. From there you start to create sketches of the structure and parts of the theme in question. It is essential to know the parts of a theme so that they do not become an obstacle at the time of developing our ideas, knowing this you can determine what can work and what not, because they do not have to be used all at once, only those that help to promote what we want to convey with the song. The order is not so relevant, creativity plays an important role at this point, one order and another can enhance the theme or make it weaker, depending on what you want will be adequate and will work well.

Hacemos énfasis en esta parte de la composición, dado que al tener la idea definida de lo que se desea lograr, y de lo que te pida la composición, el tema comienza a construirse por sí solo. A partir de ello se empieza a crear bocetos de la estructura y partes del tema en cuestión. Es fundamental conocer las partes de un tema para que estos no se conviertan en un obstáculo al momento de desarrollar nuestras ideas, sabiendo esto podrás determinar que te puede funcionar y que no, porque no tienen que usarse todos a la vez, solo los que ayuden a impulsar lo que queremos transmitir con la canción. El orden no es tan relevante, la creatividad juega un papel importante en este punto, un orden y otro puede potenciar el tema o hacerlo más débil, según lo que se desea será el adecuado y funcionará bien.

The main parts of a song are the verse, chorus and the bridge. They are the base that give solidity to the construction of our song. The verse or verse is the part of the song that pushes the song to the front, this is where the suspense is present to create the expectation of what we can expect from the song. We see how many artists play on this point every time each verse or stanza comes; they do it by varying small details to break the monotony and enrich the theme little by little. The verses or verses have the particularity of developing in an ascending way, so that it is increasing the power to give way to the chorus.

Las partes principales de un tema son el verso o estrofa, coro y el puente. Ellos son la base que le dan solidez a la construcción de nuestra canción. Vemos como muchos artistas juegan en este punto cada vez que viene cada verso o estrofa; lo hacen variando pequeños detalles para romper la monotonía y enriquecer el tema de a poco. Los versos o estrofas tienen la particularidad de desarrollarse de forma ascendente, de modo que vaya incrementando la potencia para darle paso al coro.

The chorus is what is repeated the most, it is usually that part of the lyrics of the verse that emphasizes its value and meaning in this part of the song. In many cases we see that the chorus follows after the verse or stanza, it is repeated without many modifications unlike the verses and stanzas. However, here creativity makes emphasis between one artist and another, many bands and/or artists start their songs with the music of the chorus (without lyrics), this has its psychological effects for the listeners, this way you are not taken by surprise when the chorus arrives. In terms of communication, when the brain does not assimilate sudden changes, it usually reacts and discards. Let's remember that composing is synonymous with communicating, taking into account that as composers we are the transmitters, it is good to be clear that the medium is the music and the receiver is our listeners.

El coro es lo que más se repite, por lo regular es esa parte de la letra de las estrofas que hacen resaltar su valor y significado en esta parte del tema. En muchos casos vemos que el coro sigue luego del verso o estrofa, se repite sin muchas modificaciones a diferencia de los versos y estrofas. Sin embargo, aquí la creatividad hace énfasis entre un artista y otro, muchas bandas y/o artistas empiezan sus temas con la música del coro (sin letra), esto tiene sus efectos psicológicos para los oyentes, de esta manera no te toma por sorpresa cuando el coro llega. En términos de comunicación, cuando el cerebro no asimila cambios bruscos, por lo regular reacciona y desecha. Recordemos que componer es sinónimo de comunicar, tomar en cuenta que como compositores somos los emisores, es bueno tener claro que el medio es la música y el receptor nuestros oyentes.

The chorus must be easy to memorize, so that the brain can digest it without so much interference, so that it will always remember it. Many times we start singing a song and we do not remember its author and where it comes from, that happens because it is stored in the unconscious. The music industry has used this resource to get hooked in the market, repeating the chorus many times during the song is to recognize it and not forget it, it works for our brain, even if we don't like the song, we will only remember it forever. So now you know why you hum a song so much, usually, they are parts of the chorus, either the lyrics or the melody, or some melody of an instrument is repeated harmonically.

El coro debe ser memorizable con facilidad, que el cerebro lo digiera sin tanta interferencia para que lo recuerde siempre. Muchas veces empezamos a cantar alguna canción y no recordamos su autor y de dónde viene, eso ocurre porque queda guardado en el inconsciente. La industria de la música ha usado este recurso para engancharse en el mercado, repetir el coro muchas veces durante la canción es reconocerla y no olvidarla, funciona para nuestro cerebro, así no nos agrade la canción, solo la recordaremos siempre. Entonces ya sabes por qué tarareas tanto un tema, por lo regular, son partes del coro, bien sea la letra o su melodía, o alguna melodía de algún instrumento se repita armónicamente.

Finally, we have the bridge within the song structures, this section is the distinct part of the song, creating a contrast with the other parts of the song. The bridge is like the parallel climax of the song, here the chords and melody are usually quite distinct, maybe not so much, depending on the strong or subtle contrast desired for the song. Many artists place the bridge between the verse or verse and the chorus, while others use this bridge as a chorus variant, or to solo instruments, the creativity is endless. The structure of a song varies a lot culturally, they are styles, North American and European structures are different. Songs are stories, and we must treat them as such, as long as we keep that in mind we can make our song a journey.

Por último, tenemos el puente dentro de las estructuras de las canciones, esta sección es la parte distinta del tema, creando un contraste con las otras partes de la canción. El puente es como el clímax paralelo de la canción, aquí los acordes y la melodía suelen ser bastante distinta, a quizás no tanto, según el contraste fuerte o sutil que se deseó para la canción. Muchos artistas ubican el puente entre el verso o estrofa y el coro, mientras que otros usan este puente como variantes de coro, o para hacer los solos de los instrumentos, la creatividad es infinita. La estructura de una canción varía mucho en cuanto a lo cultural, son estilos, las estructuras de Norteamérica y las europeas son distintas. Las canciones son historias, y debemos tratarla como tal, en la medida que tengamos eso presente podemos hacer de nuestra canción un viaje.

Structuring a musical composition is similar to creating a speech. It is significant to start with a melody that highlights and emphasizes the main idea. The melody is the backbone of any composition. To make an attractive musical speech, repetition and variation can be used. Repetition helps create a sense of unity in the composition, while variation helps keep things interesting. Every composition should have a climax, which is the point where the music reaches its highest point of intensity. The end of the composition should leave a lasting impression. There are many ways to end a song, so it is important to avoid clichés and easy solutions. Be creative and unexpected. You can end on the spur of the moment, softly and gradually, or fade out to create a sense of mystery or suspense.

Estructurar una composición musical es similar a crear un discurso. Es significativo comenzar con una melodía que destaque y resalte la idea principal. La melodía es la columna vertebral de cualquier composición. Para hacer un discurso musical atractivo se puede usar la repetición y la variación. La repetición ayuda a crear un sentido de unidad en la composición, mientras que la variación ayuda a mantener las cosas interesantes. Toda composición debe tener un clímax, que es el punto donde la música alcanza su punto más alto de intensidad. El final de la composición debe dejar una impresión duradera. Hay muchas maneras de terminar una canción, así que es importante evitar los clichés y las soluciones fáciles. Hay que ser creativo e inesperado.
