This weeks Battle Mage Challenge is about the Weak Magic rule.

Splinterlands tells us the following about the Weak Magic rule:
Magic hits armor first before hitting health.
Add another layer of Protection to extend the life of your units.
Shatter or Pierce any armor your opponent dares place.

Incompatible Rules

Weak Magic is incompatible with Up Close & Personal, Lost Magic, Going the Distance and Unprotected.

Desirable Abilities

( Rust. Protect, Repair, Shatter, Piercing)
Rust and Protect are very good abilities in this mode since they add or remove armor from the entire teams. Since armor protects against all attack types in this rule, its value is very high. Secondary abilities to include are Repair, Shatter, and Piercing. Especially Repair can be a gamechanger and keep a monster alive indefinitely if the opponent team has too low damage.

Disadvantaged Summoners
Grandmaster Rathe provides Void Armor, which is the same as what the rule does, so he has a wasted ability here. The magic-based summoners are also at a disadvantage because they are usually able to ignore armor, and are balanced around that. In this rule, they lose that advantage.

Desirable Monsters

Disadvantaged Monsters
To some extent, all magic monsters are at a slight disadvantage here. I will not list them all.

My Battle : Weak Magic battle
My battle had the following configuration: Wild Diamond league. 35 mana, rules: Lost Legendaries, Weak Magic, Heavy Hitters. Splinters: Death, Water, Dragon, Fire, Life.
For me, Weak Magic usually means I will play Kelya, Jacek or Astral Entity. Astral Entity is my favorite because he is not that commonly played, and has access to an awesome card for this mode: the Ever-Hungry Skull. With Lost Legendaries also, Countess Sinash cant be played, so Jacek is not as good as usual. Both Water and Death have good monsters with Stun to take advantage of the Heavy Hitters rule.
My lineup
I chose to go for Astral Entity with Ever Hungry skull in front. I added two Sneak monsters in my lineup, and the Ravenhood Warden who provides both Protect and Inspire. I added Magi Necrosi who has stun so that I can maybe get a few Knock Out hits. Finally, I added a Cursed Windeku to protect my backline in case I end up facing a Sneak team.
Opponent's lineup
My opponent went for a classical Kelya Frendul lineup. Nothing special to comment about, apart from that maybe including Igor Darkspear instead of the Merdhampir would have been a better choice. Besides, the cards are underleveled for Diamond league, so this should not be that much of a challenge.

Battle progress and Result
Round 1 starts with the two fast Sneak attackers hitting the backlines. My Silent Sha-Vi misses due to the Blind provided by Flying Squid. Since my summoner has removed the bonus armor Kelya Provides, the Pelacor Bandit takes Thorns damage directly to its health pool. Next, the Flying Squid tries to hit the Ever-Hungry Skull, but with Flying and Dodge, it is a difficult target and the Squid misses. Next, my Magi Necrosi targets Merdaali Guardian with Snipe, and since it has Oppress, it deals double damage and kills the Merdaali Guardian in a single strike.
When Merdhampir hits Ever-Hungry Skull it takes a bit of Return Fire damage, and immediately after it is also struck by Uraeus and Poison. Then the tanks take turns hitting each other. Finally the Deeplurker tries to hit the Ever-Hungry Skull, but misses, and the Ravenhood Warden also misses the Diemonshark. .
In round 2, the Merdhampir dies from Poison, and Silent Sha-vi kills the Pelacor Bandit. Flying Squid hits the skull and takes Thorns damage in return. Next, the Magi Necrosi hits Diemonshark and applies Stun. Uraeus does some damage to the Deeplurker and then the skull hits the stunned Diemonshark for 8 damage due to Knock Out. The end of the round is a repeat of round 1, with both Deeplurker and Ravenhood Warden missing their hits.
In round 3 there are only two monsters left, and they are quickly finished off. Once again the Magi Necrosi lands the Stun, and Uraeus can deal double damage when it hits the Flying Squid.
Since my opponent played underleveled cards, this match was not a challenge, but it was a good example of how good Astral Entity with Ever-Hungry Skull is in this mode, as well as the effectiveness of a magic based Stun monster in the Heavy Hitters rule.
