For the invitations to today's Jazz-Matinée the main focus was on highlighting how delicate and almost fragile compositions can be, yet at the same time unfold their full magic. In this context, it is irrelevant whether an artist takes to the stage alone with their instrument, prefers a small ensemble, or presents a full orchestra. I hope I have made the right choice.

Bei den Einladungen zur heutigen Jazz-Matinee stand der Versuch im Vordergrund zu verdeutlichen, wie zart und beinahe zerbrechlich Kompositionen daherkommen mögen, aber zur gleichen Zeit die volle Portion Magie entfalten. Da spielt es überhaupt keine Rolle, ob sich da ein Künstler ganz alleine mit seinem Instrument auf die Bühne begibt, dem kleinen Ensemble den Vorzug gibt oder das ganz große Besteck auftischt. Ich hoffe die richtige Auswahl gefunden zu haben.

Alessandro Sgobbio – Piano Music

Danças Ocultas – Inspirar

Danças Ocultas is a Portuguese quartet that has been creating its own unique soundscapes with four diatonic accordions since 1989. Their music can perhaps best be described as ‘impressionistic folk’. After three albums that can be symbolically described as exhalations (Arco, Amplitude and Dentro Desse Mar), the band makes a respiratory turnaround with the album Inspirar. The title describes both inhalation and the absorption of influences and inspiration that music can bring to listeners. With ‘Inspirar’, the band gains new momentum by expanding its repertoire with new pieces and reflecting on the deep connection between the musicians.

Danças Ocultas ist ein portugiesisches Quartett, das seit 1989 mit vier diatonischen Akkordeons seine ganz eigenen Klangwelten erschafft. Dessen Musik lässt sich vielleicht am besten als „impressionistischer Folk“ bezeichnen. Nach drei Alben, die sinnbildlich als Ausatmen beschrieben werden können (Arco, Amplitude und Dentro Desse Mar), vollzieht die Band mit dem Album „Inspirar“ eine respiratorische Kehrtwende. Der Titel beschreibt sowohl das Einatmen als auch die Aufnahme von Einflüssen und die Inspiration, die die Musik den Hörern bringen kann. Goran Stevanovich – Sarajevo

Goran Stevanovich is a gifted Bosnian accordionist who has won numerous national and international awards, including the German Accordion Music Prize in 2012. This album requires preparation – and an understanding not only of classical music, but also of the special characteristics of this extraordinary instrument. The playing technique, sound production and characteristic timbre of the accordion are of central importance here. Goran Stevanovich is not only a brilliant instrumentalist, but also a versatile artist who rearranges great works and at the same time creates original compositions of his own. Kadri Voorand and her colleagues from Estonian Voices delight listeners with a work that shines not only through excellent vocal interpretations, but also through powerful original compositions. The selection of repertoire – a central element for a vocal ensemble – is a real hit here. The pieces are finely tuned, varied and full of emotional depth. It is a joy to listen to this music from start to finish. A beautiful album that proves how much expressiveness, colour and creative power can be found in the human voice. The award-winning Estonian Voices are an Estonian a cappella vocal sextet who love to experiment with music.

Ein vollständig gesungenes Album – und was für eines! Kadri Voorand und ihre Kolleginnen und Kollegen von Estonian Voices begeistern mit einem Werk, das nicht nur durch exzellente vokale Interpretationen, sondern auch durch starke Eigenkompositionen glänzt. Die Auswahl des Repertoires – bei einem Vokalensemble ein zentrales Element – ist hier ein echter Volltreffer. Die Stücke sind fein abgestimmt, abwechslungsreich und voller emotionaler Tiefe. Zurich Jazz Orchestra feat. Thomas Gansch – Neat Little Songs

Music full of sonic opulence, sophisticated arrangements and numerous magnificent solos, in which Thomas Gansch repeatedly takes centre stage and thrills listeners with his unmistakable tone and brilliant playing. Yet, the trumpeter does not remain alone in the spotlight, but maintains an impressive democratic attitude: he inspires the other members of the orchestra to shine in their own solo moments and free improvisation. The strength of this album lies not only in the extraordinary musical personalities, their musical understanding and the well-thought-out arrangements – but above all in the music itself and the virtuosity with which it is performed.
