The unstake option inside Listnerds
In case you're new to Listnerds, let's first mention that your Listnerds tokens come staked when you claim them. There is a 10-week power down for unstaking. As there is still some unclarity about the unstaking process within Listnerds, and I had similar questions about this from several team members, I knew I would have to write a post about it at some point so I can clear up any questions you may have about this process.
Let's first be clear that I really wouldn't advise anyone to power down Listnerds immediately after they start earning because you will miss out on the awesome staking rewards over these Listnerds tokens. At the same time, I also feel that taking profits is recommended at some point for a few reasons, first because you may want to get back your investment at the very minimum at some point, or because you invested many hours a week into building your list and at some point feel you are at the point that you feel some returns would be nice.
Let's first answer some of the questions that I received in the past months before I tell you my personal unstaking plan later in this post to give you a bit of an idea of what you could do regarding unstaking while keep building your Listnerds stake at the same time.
Unstaking takes 10 weeks
Although I think plenty of people assume that powering down works the same as on Hive, and comes in weekly chunks over a period of 13 weeks, this is not the case! I personally wanted to know as much info before I even considered unstaking so I asked a lot of questions. @blainjones probably got pretty tired of me as I bothered him every single day with another thing that I was not certain about or wanted confirmation that I understood things correctly. But if you ask questions, at least you won't get any surprises afterward. So let's check this unstaking option of Listnerds inside my dashboard.
Above you can see where you can find the option to unstake. It's the same place where you go when claiming your rewards and sending tokens in and out from and to Hive Engine. You can see your current stake and below a red button that says unstake.
When you click on that button you will see the memo: "Unstaking tokens takes 10 weeks, you will not be eligible for rewards during this period." Several people have asked me if they won't get ANY email rewards and/or staking rewards from the remaining stake and the emails that get verified in the next 10 weeks. This is not how it works, don't worry.
The only part where you won't receive rewards over is the part that you decide to unstake. So if you unstake 10 Listnerds and have 990 left, your staking rewards over these 990 Listnerds will continue, while the 10 Listnerds are not receiving any rewards from the moment you unstaked them. That's it, super simple!
Frequently asked questions about unstaking Listnerds
Q: Will I not be able to earn any rewards over verified emails for the next 10 weeks after I power down?
A: Your email rewards have nothing to do with the unstaking process! You don't have to worry about not earning any rewards for the next 10 weeks, it's totally separate from this process! Your verified emails will receive Listnerds rewards as per usual.
Q: Will my powerdown arrive in 1/10 parts for the next 10 weeks?
No,another thing you need to consider when unstaking is that the full amount you choose to unstake will be liquid in 10 weeks in full, not in 10 smaller parts divided like you receive your HP unstakings in 13 weekly parts on Hive. Please make sure you consider your unstaking process carefully before you press the button as for now there is no cancel option.
Q; Can I unstake only one amount?
A: No, you can add weekly unstakes as well as daily. I would advice you to write down when you unstaked a certain amount of tokens so you have an idea of when they arrive in liquids. This way you avoid confusion in the future and unnecessary questions to the dev as you believe your unstake should have been there by now. Ten weeks is a long time to wait, so it's smart to write it down.
My initial plan vs my actual plan
I personally invested a lot of time in Listnerds and will keep doing this as I'm truly focused on building my business. I have no plans on leaving this for what it is but will keep growing my list and stake as well as guiding my team members where they need some guidance. Although they are pretty awesome anyway so usually they know very well how to get the ball rolling!
My initial plan was to start unstaking a weekly amount of Listnerds when I hit the 1000 Listnerds staked. But when I hit the 1000, I was so happy with the staking rewards that I thought I should at least work towards the 2000 first and then decide if I thought it was a smart move already. As I also have quite the expensive journey ahead to move countries, I felt that I needed to secure some liquids in case I might need them, therefore for me the 2000 stake was the point where I started my unstaking plan. Instead of doing a weekly unstake, I decided to change it to a daily smaller unstake instead and up this unstake every X days. I had to see how this was evolving first because to me it was important to keep building and growing my stake as it was never the intention taking out the full earnings! Remember that I'm building something, not pulling out my earnings in full.
Keeping track of the stats
Every day I add the earnings to my sheet, I also calculate the staking rewards every day and make sure to write down the new Listnerds stake after I took out the daily unstaked tokens. Then I also add how many I unstaked that day as well as when I can expect them in liquid. This way I have a clear view on what to expect when and can also see clearly if my stake is still growing as expected or that I should adjust my plan along the way.
I'm very pleased with the process so far and I'm adding a few tokens to the unstaked amount every couple of days. My staking rewards still grow with about 3 tokens a day every day despite my unstaked tokens.
My plans with the unstaked tokens
I have no intentions to crash the price by dumping a bag of tokens on the market every day, let's be very clear, it's in my best interest too that Listnerds will not crash in price. I think everyone that's invested in the platform should take that into account before dumping them for a stupidly low price just to get rid of them soon. Remember that people have a chance of winning the number of tokens they bought on Hive Engine so it's interesting to buy them as they can double their purchase with the chances tab inside the Listnerds account.
I'm going to use the first month (or less if I need less, obviously) to contribute to the funds for the things we need for our new life in Spain in June and once that's all settled and I'm sure we don't have any more big purchases that need attention short-term, I will continue this tiny daily unstake (it's tiny compared to the total earnings each day) to sell my Listnerds from unstaking every day and buy HBD so that I can add these into savings for the sweet 20% interest.
I considered doing 50/50 with HP but I figured the HP can wait a month because I rather build the HBD savings first as it's such a high return. The month after Hive Power gets my attention and I will dedicate my full powerdown to building my Hive Power stake! I have some goals that I want to reach, and preferably go far beyond them, so once I'm settled in Spain, it's time to diversify the earnings and move them into these other Hive stakes that I really want to build.
So now that you have an insight into my unstaking plans and how I'm going to spend these funds at the time of arrival, I hope that I may have answered a few questions as well as inspired you to also try to only unstake without crashing your earnings as well as the market when you're going to sell.
