Hello everyone!
Part of the Review Challenge is to Review all of the Data sheets and Detachment Rules of the World Eaters, Thousands Sons and Death Guard. I have now completed all of the Datasheets but now I need to do the Detachment rules.
A New Season of Reviews - A Challenge accepted!
The nefarious trio of World Eaters, Death Guard and Thousand Sons are set to get their new Codexes next. Actually, the great FOUR are each getting their favourite Legion's new Codexes but Emperor's Children did not have an actual Index before.
Anyway. I was speaking to my friend @nicolaasmuller about how my Review posts might not make a lot of money for me, but that cumulatively and on average some of them do good and overall there is an average that at least means that there is good movement of income into the Hobby Fund and that it would grow from there.
We were throwing around some numbers and looking at the average of my last 10 Review Posts, 20 Review posts and 30 Review Posts and we could come up with a range of how much I should theoretically be making across a large sample size of completing the remainder of the reviews for the nefarious trio mentioned above.
So Nicolaas says to me something along the lines of: That would be pretty cool if you could do it in like, a month. Maybe do like 2 a day.
Alteration So @nicolaasmuller and I worked out that firstly - due to family obligations, I had missed out on some days not being able to blog at all and having no laptop with me and more on the way... and the fact that he had said 2x posts a day from the start would have made it a 40 day challenge. I shall adjust that number below going forward...
So I explained it would be a little bit more than that but sure... it would be cool... is that a challenge? And yeah... here I am... Challenge accepted. 😎
It is now Day 39 of the Challenge.

Army Rule Recap
Nurgle's Gift gave you a Contagion zone around your models that grows as the game progresses.
Enemies within Contagion are at -1 Toughness which makes it easier to hurt them.
Now you pick the Flyblown Host as your Detachment and then gain access to the below rules!
Detachment Rule - Verminous Haze
Death Guard Infantry units that are not embarked on Transports have Scouts 5" and Stealth abilities.
This means that before the game begins, they get a free 5" move and whenever you shoot at them, it is at a -1 to Hit modifier.
Thoughts
For an army that is usually slow on foot, this is interesting! Does this mean that this could bring out a heavily Infantry based Death Guard army that can close the gap between them and the enemy with a good defensive ability to boot... but let's see what else this Detachment can do!
Enhancements
Every Detachment has their own Enhancements to put on Characters. You cannot put 2 Enhancements on 1 hero, Epic Heros cannot take theim either and you are limited to 3 of the 4.
Here are the Enhancements for the Vessels of Wrath:
Droning Chorus - 15pts
Death Guard Infantry model only. Ranged weapons in the bearer's unit have the Assault rule.
So again, this is great because it gives them the Speed to close the gap. In most setups, the two Deployment Zones are 18-24" away from each other. 5" Scout move makes it 13-19" away. Move 5" +D6" so it can be that on the first turn you can still shoot and be really up close an personal to the enemy!
Insectile Murmuration - 20pts
Death Guard Infantry model only. While this unit makes any attack on an enemy within Contagion range, re-roll Wound rolls of 1.
This is for Ranged and Melee and can be deadly, especially while they already reduce Toughness by 1.
Rejuvenating Swarm - 10pts
Death Guard Infantry only. After every PHASE, this model regains all of its Wounds!
This is insane and make a Lord Character nearly unkillable to anything but the most vicious of attacks. If you shoot him, wound him but not kill him - back to full health. Then fight him, wound him, but not kill - back to full health!
Plagueveil - 25pts
While the bearer's unit is on an objective. They can only be targeted by a ranged attack if the attacker is within 18" range.
This means you can hold an objective and if they want to take it, they need to come into the danger zone!
Stratagems
Stratagems are used in the battle as an elective rule that can be employed in crucial moments. All armies have access to Universal Stratagems but each Detachment has their very own Stratagems that they can use.
This is what the Flyblown Host can do.
Nauseating Paroxysms - 1CP
Used at the start of the Fight Phase.
One enemy unit in engagement must take a Battleshock test with a -1 Modifier.
I am not too sure at this Strat... I suppose it can stop certain armies from using Stratagems after targets have been selected.
Vermin Cloud - 1CP
Used at the start of the Figh Phase on a Death Guard Infantry unit. That unit can make 6" Consolidate or Pile-in moves instead of 3"
This is amazing. It brings a strung out unit into sharp focus for massive damage rather quickly!
Eye of the Swarm - 1CP
Used in the Shooting Phase on Death Guard Infantry.
Until the end of the phase, all ranged weapons armed by this unit, except for Blast Weapons, get the Pistol Keyword.
This gives those weapons the ability to fire while in combat! Loads of Plague Boltguns and Plasmaguns firing at point-blank range! This can then clear off many targets before the combat goes further.
Especially useful to clear an ongoing combat!
Droning Horror - 1CP
Used in your shooting phase on 1 Death Guard Infantry model. That unit can re-roll 1's to Hit and if the target is within half range then they can Re-roll to Hit instead.
A ranged damage booster.
Enervating Onslaught - 1CP
Used in the Charge phase right after a Death Guard Infantry unit has made their charge move.
Roll a dice for every model in that unit that is in Engagement Range with the enemy. Add +1 to the result if the unit is NOT Cultists or Poxwalkers. On a 5+ the enemy unit suffers a Mortal Wound up to a maximum of 6 Mortal Wounds.
Some Mortal wounds on the charge.
Myphitic Invigoration - 1CP
Used in your opponents Shooting phase on Death Guard Infantry that is also within 6" of a Myphitic Blight Hauler.
This unit gains a -1 to Wound debuff against incoming attacks with attack Strength higher than their Toughness.
Conclusion
It is an interesting Detachment. The Enhancements and the Detachment rule are good but the Stratagems make me feel that they are a bit Meh.
Otherwise cool to field loads of Plague Marines with!
