My Favourite Childhood Book
~Jorge Luis Borges
Growing up, books were always a big part of my life. I can remember seeing my mom reading some novel and I would also ask her mine so I also can read. Many members of my family in a way prefer wasting some time pouring through page after page or rather they preferred this days am not so sure. But basically there are more books at our place than many other things. When I moved in with my mom, she was living in a new place and it was somewhat hard being able to socialize with her being somewhat strict on who I hang out with, and so books were my way of passing time, an endless race trying to outrun boredom.....

Due to the lack of many young kids when I was growing up at my grandmothers place, many books were somewhat too complex for my young mind, that was until I came across a worn out copy The Lorax, stashed away in one of my uncle's belongings......y'know me being a curious and explorative kid.π

The Lorax, a story written by the famous Dr Seuss, happened to be the only kids book I came across when I was actually a kid...... π€I think am still a kid, but physically I am a young adult.... I mean at a young age. On opening the first pages, I was soo drawn in by the illustrations and may have spent quite some time just not even reading but just going through each page and checking out the different illustrations.
Even as a kid, I felt there was this realm of deeper meaning about the book that I was not getting fully into, and it always led me having conversations with myself when I was alone doing some chores, which was like pretty much all the time. It took me quite a long time to fully grasp the meaning, and I think every time I go through it I somehow grasp more and more of it.
It is one of the reasons somehow I found myself tinkering with philosophy while many seeing it as something scary and totally incomprehensible. How Dr Seuss raises philosophical arguments or rather insights on who we really are, how success affects, the price of our ignorance and too much of an ego will always be fascinating to me. And the fact that the books were actually for kids is just amazing, I find myself attracted to that integration between his creativity and morals about life.
Some quotes from the book have greatly influenced how I lead my life, and have always acted as an internal guiding compass, always ensuring of the fact that I am very aware of my actions and their consequences. It has also influenced my fear of ignorance and more so the lack of conscious awareness of being really ignorant.
